Wow , I’m now sure what people mean when they say Mech Warrior 4 Mercenaries looks too cartoonish using XP. Xp delivers way too many graphics and a hard to follow game action. The Mechs on my side were Glowing Red and the Blue ones on the opposite side looks like your shooting at a Bluish Cartoon character. It’s No wonder why all them XP users were saying the game looked too much like a cartoon. I admit, Using XP has led me to see what they are talking about. ( I Have not got around to lowering my graphics settings as of yet. )
However ( in my eyes ) I saw the game first using Window 98 and still believe that it’s one of the Best games to be brought to the public in quite some time. I’m not sure if you follow , But let me just say that this game is no fun using XP. Try playing MW4 Merc. With the 98 OS System. I’m sure you’ll notice the difference as I have , and I guarantee more Persist and accurate combat fire on your targets.
If you want to keep your XP and use 98 at the same time ,… Try to partition your hard drive . Use 98 OS system for the drive you partitioned. I haven’t tried this yet , but I have heard of it being done before in this case . Get Partition Magic 8 for a simple easy way to split your hard drive the way you like.
Anyway ,.. I just cant get over how much more realistic it was using Windows 98 then this crap.

Well , okay , lowering your graphics settings down to the bare minimum helps out a great deal.
Let this be a lesson to you ppl that gave up to quickly ,... eh
If that doesn't help , then try loading Merc. on 98.
This game will not look Cartoonish if you try the above. If it does than you can blame it on me. NP ..

Have many other people reported this graphic isue with XP? Honestly, I don't think I have noticed any big changes to the graphics after I went to XP. The increase in stability that I have gotten with XP has been great and if the graphics have degraded any, it's not been enough to outweigh the bonus in stability. I've had XP for a couple of months or so, and I think I've only had 2 crashes during that whole period (knock, knock).

I've had XP for several months now. No crashes, no BSODs yet. MW4 runs fine - the only problems I've had were internet-related (due to the built in firewall, which I disabled) and creating a Power User account so I didn't have to run it as Administrator.
But I still run Mandrake Linux most of the time.
