the Games we play....

Post by BlackHawk*K »

hails all,

been tring to think of some games that we might all be able to play besides mechy. i know mechy is the meat and potatos of this unit and always will be, ( well we are ELH ya know..) but something for fun too. some of you who read this post might remember Viper Raceing we all did while playing tribes under the =VS= banner. Some GDL used to play other games as well while playing mechy as a unit. this is a good idea and fun. we had a run on the forum about freelancer. its a fun game, but the lack of joystick support has disapointed quite a few ppl. and simply without alot of ppl doing things online at one time. the universe gets a bit small. The 151 went ghost recon. some ppl play warbirds and other flight sims. its all been fun but so far nothing has brought the few of us togather. well here is another shot in the fish bucket of games here to try out if anyone is interested. its called HALO, ive heard of it but never bothered to try it out till one night Falker asked me to. i DLed the trial version and low and behold, this thing is kinda fun lol.
Its a mix between a war game and space out thingy... something i can get behind ( the spaced out thingy ) ive been playing it online now for a day and been having a blast. and i suck! anyhow here is the DL linke : http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/downloads.asp

Give it a try if your interseted.

To all, <S> and happy holidays.

halo is a fun game.....i bought the full version, and have now completed it....one of the things i love is bombing about in a warthog (of those who haven't played the game, it's essentially a hummer, with a heavy machine gun or rocket launcer on the back, as well as a passenger seat that can be filled)....3 ppl can have a blast in one of them :)
or the scorpion tank is cool as well....that can have 4 ppl sitting on the side of it plus the driver/gunner......might have to give it a go online once i get my broadband set up

OK, the wife has given the go ahead for a new gaming rig. I guess she's tired of listening to me bitch about the old 700.
Are there any decent flight/space/combat sims out there that justify the new hardware?
I'm a sim head, I like Descent, Freespace, 'Mech, etc., these new FPS combat sims just don't do anything for me. So does anybody know of somthing juicy with an 1.8Gb + and HOTAS requirement?

Thanks,
Fethr

CFS3. Out of the box it sucks. But a LOT of talented people have vastly improved this game. Online flying rocks. flying as a team is very cool.

Free. Just like MW4. It's a M$ game. I have seen servers with 16 peeps in them. you can fly fighters or bombers. you can have up multiple people in the bomber. Pilot contols the plane and the bombadier station. Others can con control any of the gun stations. On a B17 thats like 8 other people. In our Squad missions we do fighter sweeps, ground attack, or escourt. Several of the guys I fly with in the 46th, are in their 50 and 60's. some are actual pilots. It's interesting. Like I said. CFS3 out of the box sucks huge. But there is an offical patch. several hundred aircraft you can add with freeware. 2 payware expansion packs (both are excellant). Trying to fly formation over the channel in autium is tough. If you like WW2 flight sims, you should give CFS3 a look. IL2FB is good also but it is closed coded so any and all add ons come from Ubi and 1C. they are few and very far between. Also the bleakness of the Russian steeps doesnt hold my attention like the ETO does.

Like I said if you pick this up, let me know. I'll stear ya in the right directions to get started.

Cool Thanks, Buff.
Sounds like that's the one. Everytime I go to the store, that box keeps cathing my eye.

The thing with a 262 is to remember that it's engines suck (and blow so to speak). Meaning that you set it at combat power and leave it there. Lots of throttle movement tends to cause them to spit the bit and begin to flame. Also, the 262 has crap for turn radii. So when engageing a group of 262's, I try to get under them at the merge and lead turn them over the top. If I can catch one yahoo attempting to go 2 circle on me now (turning back into my plane) I have him set up for at least one pass. I have alt on him and once I come down our speed will be close. I make a pass (hopefully hurting him) and extend low. His buddies will/are by that time coming back in the fight with alt on me now but in my extend, I have speed similar to them. Now that the 262's are commited to the fight (with hopefully one or more hit a few times) it's time to drag the fight to the deck, and take away the dive for speed ability of the 262. Their jets take longer to spool than my prop so they are now low, and dotn have the E to fight low. Also they handle like crap slow. If they are smart, they stay high and extend. Leaving the fight for another day. Smart human pilots will do this. Dumbasses and the AI have their fangs out and will try to turn fight or think they can B and Z you down low. The turn radii of the 262 really hurts them here. If they are at my 6, with E and Alt. I'll drag them into a turn (R or L) and get them committed. Once they pull to a lead shot, I'll do a split-s reversal and keep the turn into them hard, bleeding E. They will in about every case, try to reverse with me, have too much E, and overshoot, while I have guns on them with small E in a nice defelection lead shot. All it takes is a few rounds in one of his 2 jets and he is done.

I flamed 3 Me262's the other night in our squad mission. Dragging them to the deck makes all the difference. You fight them in their wheelhouse, your in trouble.

Crickett, Stache, and I played Dungeon Siege multiplayer the other night. Nice change of pace. We played for over 4 hours (and I got 777 kills woo woo, course it helped that my relatively high level character had that handy dandy goblin lightning gun - bzzt!). Anybody else got that game?

Here's another (albeit very slow and low key) game we could all play - Nationstates - in which you run your own country.

http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi

Here's mine:

http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/ind ... tion=erosa

Some of the NBT folks are playing and have set up their own Region. Our own Venom has a Nationstates country, too.

We could set up an ELH region.

PS: Of course, there's always Megamek. Anytime you guys feel like getting yer butts kicked, lemme know.

!

Probably a security thing.

IMO yer still ELH, even if ya play a pirate in NBT. There's more to ELH than NBT!

Anyway, I didn't do it! I only revoke lefts.

ps: I watched the trailer for DS2. Woot!

Do you ever wonder what a scumbag is?
Is it anything like a scrotum?
Is it an honorific in some cultures?
If one is a scumbag, is it proper to tell somebody you are feeling a little low?
Is it lonely for a scumbag to only have one friend,
named Dick?
Do people often think you are just nuts?

@ Feather: Well my old mate I can explain the term 'scumbag' quite easily. You remember the admin of the LBS league? Those were scumbags :)
