Damn I’m Bored
It would be nice to get on with my life and leave the Mechy thing behind me knowing that it’s just not like it used to be. I recall the 50 some year old Dan-O saying the same thing awhile back when he retired from not only Mech Warrior , but he put it as through he was done playing games online period . And he kept his word. I finally saw him several months later when he popped in Kali to say hello one last time. He was one of the good guys. I’d like to think that I could fit that profile as well some day when my life has evolved more to that point .
Honestly though , The only reason I would like to play games on line these days is to meet my old friends in battle , who I have known for what seems like many years now . We would often have a good battle as a team ganging up on the other side and it became more than just being acquaintances , … it was more like life long friends battling side by side and having become real team mates who can read each others minds as well as I could read theirs. That’s a special grouping thing . I would never ( or hardly ever ) die on the battle field knowing those guys were watching my back. . It was a comfort and a reassurance ( like a hand slap on the back shoulder ) that they gave me on the battle field. I gained confidence just knowing those guys were there to watch my six . I have become to know them well over the years and have more then just an acquaintance with each and every one of them . If it weren’t for them , …. I would have hanged up my Hat and called it quits long ago. They are my friends , and a part of me looks forward to doing battle with them for ever and ever till I can’t handle the stick anymore. That Part of me , .. feels guilty for wanting to be like Dan-O and call it quits for good once and for all to try and get on with life and general.
A few months back I thought I was going to leave for good when I retired Falker from Mech Warrior and Believe me ,… It wasn’t easy. Aye , I love Mech Warrior for sure , But a part of me also likes the people I have come to know over the years and it was very hard to say goodbye and let them go.
Well Recently , I have given up trying to make my life what I thought it should be and have accepted it for what it is. . And I’m okay with that. . I realize there are plenty of other people out there with there own problems , and after coming to realize that , I figure I’m no that bad off after all.
I actually can’t tell you what a mid life crises is like. I believe it must have something to do with where you were at one point , where you are at now , and where your going with how much time you have left to accomplish it. I think as time dwindles down you realize you haven’t have much time left to accomplish your dreams, then you let your dreams slip by for too long and you come to a point where you realize you have little time left to make your remaining life ( as it is ) as comfortable as possible. Once you hit that point , and may accept who you are in real life and general , then you may feel a peaceful calm just knowing you have been a good person all your life , and just knowing that , makes you feel content.
In conclusion , I’m going to obey my hearts desire and try to keep my friends close by. They are what keeps me going from time to time. Plan on me being here for awhile till I win the Lotto and buy actual ELH uniforms for those that have stayed here for all these years . Then I’ll supply them with airplane tickets for a formal Mech Warriors reunion at some consort hall. ( Another dream of mine ) BTW , I Spoke with the famous forum master ~> ELH-Steel through e-mail the other day. He said he was glad to hear from me. He said along with other things going on in his life that he was looking forward to Dating again , hehe.

you know, every once in awhile there is a post on here that almost seems like im the one typeing the dang thing out. For the most part, i realy dont know alot about you falker, i dont know what you do for a living, about all i know is your real name and thats the only one you gave us. and i also seen your picture. i know you like space and the stars and you seem to be one of those always looking into the sky. some people might see that as someone with their heads in the clouds, i prefer to see it as someone always looking for something special. that one view that only you will see in all the time that the universe is here. its odd how much of your post echos how i feel about things. i myself thought of giving up this game, and the friends i have online to go forth and forge what could be my future. the simple truth is, i cant do it either. i would be the same way if you lived next door or like most of you are now living hundreds and thousands of miles away. i think i already went threw a mid life crisis myself. i know some of you know about my back injury and most of the times i try hard to ignore it in every day life, but the simple fact is, it was a totaly major life changing experiance. to start it happened during that time where we learn for the final time that as young people we are not immortal or invensible. then there were the after effects. i hoped that my body would deal with it and heal. it did heal, but not totaly. now days my life is filled with working the best i can, and comeing home whiped out at the end of the day. i wake up some days hardly able to walk. its not a sob story or anything realy, its just a life. i wish it was better but its not. but i like to try to find the good side to things. and the major one is im not dead LOL. or i could of lost the use of my limbs or even gotten brain damage. i today, feel very fortunate. in the end i think the most important thing i learned is that depending on how you look at a situation, you can find something good in just about everything. what i found over time is that my reality tends to be what i dwell on. like all living things there have been some disasters in ELH. we are like a family and i feel that it is very much alive in itself over these years it has been around. but all disasters and problems can be made better. for me looking back at ELH i see all the good times and the fun things, the celebrations of births and the best wishes when things got tough with one of our own. we used to be a group where one of us got attacked we backed em up with all our force. thats what i see when i hear and see 'ELH' not all the BS that happened over time but all the good stuff. yea i know im an optimist. but why not be? its not like i will be any more disapointed then i usualy am with life. and at least being optimistic gives me the ability to look for a future. i know alot of us been around a LONG time, but thats the cool part, its like sitting on a porch and one of us pipes up and says " you remember the time when that madcat did this?" and we all go " uh huh" and nod our heads we, are a group of ppl who have come togather who in real life never would have and made something great. it can happen again if we let it. or wanted it to. but no matter what it will never change what we have accomplished in the past, or was a part of. no matter what, nothing will take away the band of brothers and a few sisters i gained useing the game mechwarrior and Kali. to you all, those people who remain and to those who moved on i salute you all. for you all have given me something special to remember for a lifetime.
Oh , Sorry . I have been kind of secretive about my personal life. It must be a bad habit I have picked up along the way while living here in So. Cal. People are like that here and I plan on heading north again some day to rid myself of these aliens. Yeah sometimes ,.. I feel like I was born on the wrong planet or in the wrong time period.
I know there were times when someone was trying to get to know me better on the net , but I have kept reminding myself that this computer is just a means to amuse myself from time to time , and there’s no need to get That personal. Things change tho.
I been living at home with my folks ever since I moved back from Washington State a few years ago just before 9-11. The rent for a personal apartment here averages from $800 and up. With the debt my X left me in , it would be hard to make those kind of payments. I’m going a little crazy being here with some old senile people all the time hehe. That will change someday. I’m an automotive technician or mechanic. I have 4 ASE certifications and am good at what I do. My goal in life is to be a master Technician ( which requires 4 more ASE Certs. ) And then get my smog license. I’d like to be more like Miles O-Brien who wondered around the Enterprise as Chief O Brien , operating the trans porter. ( Energize ! ) and then ended up on Deep Space 9 to wonder about tinkering with things.
I’ve worked at several dealerships in the past, … Honda , Lexus , Toyota , BMW , Ford , Chevrolet , Saturn , Buick GMC and Pontiac. People say I need a career change because I go through so many jobs. I don’t think that’s would solve anything. I like working on mechanical things and It keeps my mind working , plus , I’m cut out for that sort of thing.
My latest project at home is a 1993 Toyota Tercel. I picked it up for only $4.40. It was a smoker and needed some minor fixing up. I took the engine apart and re-ringed the pistons along with installing new cylinder head valve stem seals. Easy stuff. really , Anyone who’s mechanically inclined could do it. That took care of the exhaust smoke. I fixed a few other gadgets on it and am going to sell it for around $1300. There’s bigger game out there tho and I plan on talking full advantage of it when I have more money to spend. I’ve seen a few 1996 Toyota 4-Runners with blown head gaskets going between $1,500 and $2,000. They sell between $3,000 to $6,000 on average. That’s just one example. I’ see lots of good buys here actually. I live in a good location a mere 30 miles away from 4 large cities. Los Angeles , Pasadena , San Bernardino and Riverside are all very populated. There,… I can buy and sell cars to make some easy doe. Well , sounds good , I’m just getting started tho. But I’m very determined to make something work this time. I plan on saving at least $20,000 before I leave here again , like I did a few years ago when I moved to Washington state.

yea man you can make a real killing doing that. i know a few mechanics around this area who do that and can pull at least a 50% profit or more off a car. sometimes they got to sit on it for a few months at worse case to get em off their hands but most times they go fairly quick. about all ive done is some shade tree mechanicing about like how i work on my computer, trial and error LOL. i know sometimes i mess up and cause more havoc then if i left it alone, but in a way its part of the fun to figure out what happened and how to fix it. i spent a whole summer supporting myself on fixing and selling cars. i think at my last count ive owned around 40 vehicles. LOL and im only 33! hell i used to have a list on the web at one time on a personel home page i like fixing things too. working for a general contractor lets me do that. sometimes the money is not worth the BS but sometimes its OK, maybe one day i will get over this fear of crash and burning and go out on my own as a general contractor and make some real bucks. i might try this if the wife can get in a situatin that would allow me to know feel the stress of supporting the family so bad.. UHG if anyone can make this work im sure you can. like you said it may start slow but before you know it you may be driving north with a nice old 69 vette or something ;)

I think I’ve picked up some qualities from reading all those books. Like using more paragraphs for one thing.
We have some free classified adds down here to place adds in. One is called the Recycler that covers all of southern California and it’s very popular. The other is called Green Sheet or White Sheet. They have free adds in there too. Then of course the Auto Trader or Truck Trader has become popular across the states. They want $10 for online adds or $27 for both online and magazine adds. Not many people advertise cars for sell in the newspaper these days. Then there’s the parking the car over at the stare with sings in the window. However the police started passing out parking tickets for those who were doing it. It was starting to get a bit out of hand.
Advertising is the key to successful buy sell trade. With this computer I have a better advantage and more of a chance of doing that compared to just a few years ago. My free adds goes on line within 24 hours for others to see. I can also see their adds online before they come out in the Magazine. That way I can be one of the very first to check out the car or truck they’re selling. Nice huh , I know they didn’t have anything like that in Washington when I was there. There was only the Auto/Truck Trader and the daily newspaper.
They also have lots of public actions around this area. I’m going to check them out someday. They auction off police impounds , repoes and some car dealers go there to buy and sell as well. I used to the lead mechanic at a brand new dealer auction called Adesa Of LA Auto Auction. for about a year before I moved up north. When I wasn’t pushing or driving cars through the auction lane , I used to stand aside and watch the dealers bid on them. Some times it was funny when as POS came rolling through burning smoke. The announcer had a hard time trying to sell it. He said “ DO I Have A $100 “ Let me hear $!00 ! Okay $50 ! $50 Dollars ! finally one of the dealers raised his hand ,.. Sold ! For $50 Dollars ! , and everybody was cracking up.

its too bad you dont live up here LOL. i been giving away rigs latly it seems just to get em out of my hair. the last one though wasnt too spiffy and probably hardly worth anyones time except maybe transport. was a 86 dodge colt Van. i did give away a 86 isuzu impulse that was realy nice... turbo engine and all that jaz was a realy cool car to drive too. it was one of the few small cars ive seen that was still rear wheel drive. it just needed a head LOL. my main problem is the only time i get any money is when i get a tax return the rest of the time i just try to make it from pay check to pay check, so i miss alot of good deals out there.
about the only major project i would undertake at the moment would be a 67 chevy pickup. would have to be 2wd long, short or step side. not picky on that part. i used to have one before marriage and kids ( hehe ) and built it up to be quite a nice truck. had a 400 hrs 327 v8 engine with a John Carr built turbo 350 transmition. 4/11 Rear end. the cool thing about that year is the rear end is trailing arm suspention. works realy well for drag trucks. i bought the truck for 1800 and the major mechanical was alread done to it. the guy had the recites but woudlnt give em up LOL. the bastich! i probably could of gotten em for a extra 100.00. the thing was butt ugly with 5 different collors of paint and primers. i did the body work on it and painted it Gloss black, what we call a 'blackout' meaning all bumpers and everything was black, the only thing crome was the door handles. we put some nice baby moon wheels on it ( crome too) and then added some stainless steel bed rails. that year of truck didnt have side marker lights so it looked like a shave job was done. we covered over the best post holes and the Cheverolet on the tail gate. the truck turned out REALY nice. the only thing i had left to do was some interior work and the wood in the bed of the truck.
i miss that truck something awfull. and being a pick up i could still use it for work ( well maybe considering the gas milage ! UHG!!) but it would defently be something to drive around in on the weekends ;) i got a photo of it someplace soon as i find it iwll post it up... man i had some cool stuff at one time

Might as well post up a picture of it if you find it , now that Lancer has not been around to complain about Large Photo’s lately hehe. Lancer Speak Up Mate ! Ah , he was also one of the good guys , and I’ll bet he still reads these post from time to time.
I bought a 71 Ford Step Side when I lived up in Redding California about 9 years ago. Now that I think about it , it was a piece of junk. I pored lots of money into it. About $1500 or more. I dropped another engine in it and Totally re-furbished the inside of the Truck by painting the trim and door panels. Then I went to K-Mart and bought about 20 cans of Primer so I could spray the whole damn thing outside. It turned out nicely actually. After I saved up some more $ I sprang for a duel exhaust system. There were some people I came across that appreciated those type of trucks and were saying something like : Say ,… that’s a nice truck you have there.
I actually enjoyed placing so much time and work into the truck just to get out of the living room and stay away from the lady of the house. Heh . That was one thing she didn’t bother me with . In the end I got tired of it because it was starting to become more like a monthly car payment with all the cash I kept throwing into it each month. So I sold it for much less than I actually put into it. I might build me another mussel Car or Truck when I have nothing better to do with my Money.
Say , Anyone else here have some stories to tell about there cars or trucks ? This is starting to get interesting . Maybe we could start a new thread ? BH said he bought and sold 40 Cars LOL : ) I bought and sold about half that many I think. Just a thought ..
