Tach,

I signed up once a long time ago but never played. I read a lot of the posts and it seemed like a lot of the guys were always gripin' about something, so I got turned off to it. You've liked the competition so far?

Yeah, it's been a lot of fun so far, even though sometimes I think the random number generator hates me (needs 4, rolls 3, pilot blacks out, dies shortly thereafter). I won my first two battles, then lost three in a row, then won (and salvaged two 'Mechs), then lost, then won, then lost (and lost 4 'Mechs with some pilots that had earned kills, dang it).

I'm still in the Solaris Training Company. I've got enough experience to join a House, but I'm staying put until I build up enough money to buy some cool 'Mechs. Right now I've got a Phoenix Hawk PHX-1, Trebuchet TBT-5N, Locust LCT-1S, Locust LCT-1V, Blackjack BJ-1, and a Spider SDR-5V.

edit: 10th battle - vs Pirates - win! Trebuchet pilot Hagbard Celine got two kills - one in the very first round, as his volley of LRM15s wiped out a Hunchback - 3 engine hits. Unfortunately, Hagbard didn't live to bask in the glory. The Trebuchet was salvaged, tho. My Spider kicked the leg off a Griffin. Woot.

Sounds good, Tach! Are you actively looking for the fights or do you get a lot of challenges?

Both. If you're on 'Active Duty' you're notified when someone comes within 'attack range', so you can attack them or defend if they attack you.

Today I left Solaris and joined House Kurita. I took my Solaris 'Mechs with me: a Rifleman RFL-3N, two Javelin JVN-10N, Vindicator VND-1R, Hunchback HBK-4G, and a Locust LCT-1V, and 502 c-bills. I bought a Wolverine WVR-6K and set up a couple of Lances, and went 'active'.

I promptly LOST my first battle for Kurita vs a Periphery player - he had a Victor, two heavy tanks, and a Centurion CN9-A, with which he kicked my butt royally - bye bye to the Vindicator, the Wolverine, and both Javelins. So I bought some new 'Mechs and got a Phoenix Hawk PHX-1K, a Centurion CNT9-A, an Urbanmech UM-R60, and a Locust LCT-3V. (BTW, ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances on what yer gonna get.)

Anyway, now I have: Rifleman RFL-3N, Marauder MAD-3K, Spider SDR-5V, Javelin JAV-10N, and the Urbanmech UM-R60.

Everything else has been utterly destroyed due to three losses in a row.

But I still got plenty of money.

Still playing. Despite some horrendous luck after joining House Kurita, things seem to be turning around a bit - I've won the last 4 games in a row. That makes 14 wins, and only 41 losses. :D

Here's what I've got at the moment:

Army #0 : "Clusterbuck Rangers": QKD-4G Quickdraw [4/5], JVN-10N Javelin [4/5 NAP], OSR-2C Ostroc [4/4], OSR-2C Ostroc [4/5]
Army #1 : "K-mart Shoppers": DV-6M Dervish [4/4], JR7-D Jenner [4/5], QKD-4G Quickdraw [4/5], PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk [4/4]
Army #2 : "Martians from Venus": CRD-3R Crusader [4/5], DV-6M Dervish [4/4], OSR-2C Ostroc [4/5], QKD-4G Quickdraw [4/5]
Army #3 : "Feral Pumpkins": JVN-10N Javelin [4/5 NAP], VND-1R Vindicator [4/5 MA], CRD-3R Crusader [4/5], CGR-1A9 Charger [4/5]

On Stand-by in the mech bay: AS7-D Atlas (4/5), ASN-21 Assassin (4/4)

Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun. If you've got time - games can take 2-4 hours, but usually run a little over 2 - come on and join in.

Hey, Buff - did you ever play on MMNet?
