Comms

Post by Hammer »

I know ELH has been on TS forever...but have any of you tried Ventrilo? It has MUCH better sound/voice rendering. If you would like to try it, I have all the downloads up and of course have a server I can set up a channel or two on...

I think some of us tried it once, but I don't remember much about it. I've never been too crazy about TS anyway, as it's always acting up on me.

Tach: "Zzhhhhzzzcrk!"
Crick: "Open mic!"
Tach: "Zzhhk!"
TS2: "Player left."
TS2: "New Player."
Crick: "Hello, new player."
Tach: "How's that?"
Crick: "That's good. Team 1 or Team 2?"
Tach: "Yes."
Crick: "You're a lotta help."

weird that you guys have some much trouble with it. The 151 use TS2 exclusively, and have very few problems with it. Don't really know what to advise, as i don't have much experience with the 'inner workings' of TS, maybe contact the TS tech support guys and see if they can shed some light on it.

no moose, i have no trouble with it. i just don't like it that much, and it is a pain to set up - the server, and has far too many options for just a voice comm app. overkill, making it more complex than it needs to be.

and ventrilo SOUNDS so much better...

Ventrillo is awesome, used it for about a year when Wireplay outfit were active.

But the downside is it costs money, about £40 for a server for a year, (cost varies on how many people the server needs to support) but it's well worth it if you're heavily gaming and using voice as it's crystal clear and creates no game lag

TS I've always found to be ok but I've always found it creates to much lag and has ups & downs on voice quality so you can sound like a dalek one minute ok the next.

TS always disturbs me that I can talk then a minute later when someone else talks I hear myself in the background talking.

Malin,
We use the free versions...

look here:

ftp://ftp.rlgaming.com/pub/ventrilo-2.1 ... s-i386.exe

I can set up a channel on my server if there is a need, or get a link to the free server version...

Ive used both Vent and TS and both seemed to work well. although depending on the setup Vent did work better then TS the times i used it. however the 151 TS servers worked great and was clear as a bell the whole time i used it. while on the other hand. some of these other servers with other planetside outfit, just suck.

the weird thing is. please those not of US please tell me if im wrong. but it almost seems that most european based things work better for broadband becuse they got more Broadband there and less modem users? case in point, the 151 TS server for one. and Planetside Werner server even though i get a 200 ping, it plays fine, and i can hit my targets and very rarely have jumpy lag. where on the west coast server ( 40-50 ping) i see ppl warping and get loss all the time.

so im woundering if differeing connection speeds play a larger part in quality?

just some speculation here. please set me strait if im wrong..

When you cut away all the middle men and airtime re-sellers the whole of the European Telephone and intranet system is owned by about three firms.

IMHO thats probably the reason.

so they pay for the newer version...is all. you do not have to run the latest server and client, and for the latest versions he added more stuff that a hosting company would want...

the free versions of Ventrilo work quite well and Wings of Fury has been on Ventrilo for well over a year (pretty sure) and it is great comms software. we tried TS, and RW was our standard prior to testing them all out. Ventrilo won hands down...

Hmm, yesterday SD's TS2 server seemed to be down, and today I'm getting a Bad Login (name and/or password wrong). SD, ya out there?

BTW, where'd everybody go?

anyone want i should set up a ventrilo channel on the server for ELH? i can give links to the client software and instructions.
