Kodiak in France
I wonder if Kodiak is enjoying a fluffy croissant right now or maybe a delectable crepe? I wonder if he will post in the WOF forums from some hip internet cafe?

Well to tell you the truth Tach, they are quite fluffy out of microwave ovens, but I haven't had one yet - maybe breakfast tomorrow or after evening meal tonight. And NO, I'm not at some hip internet cafe, this is the father-in-law's system. We're out in the sticks here a little, the nearest decent town is about 1/2 hour away really.
I'll do some pics for uploading when I get back home, let you see what it's like. Infact they are a bed and breakfast villa, so if you guys were ever looking for that sort of holiday, it's a nice area. A small wine village in south France called Margon.

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to that one. If they don't like the British very much do you think they are going to like Americans? :shock:Steel wrote:so how is the attitude towards American's in that part of France?

Wel, I'd say on the hate thing, it's probably not the same everywhere. And you'd have to take each on personal merit. In the North, the people are very mindless of others, selfish, and to a degree very mannerless. However, many DO appreciate the actions of the last war. In the south here, it's all about holidaymakers really, so they see a lot of Brits, especially the young louts who run drunken mad through the streets of an evening in the holiday towns. Out here, where we are, is very rural. A wine community - it's very quiet generally, the locals are as much your neighbours as the next, the parents know almost everyone in the village by name, and the village appears to be a mixed bag of Brits, French and a few other types. Quiet, but simply not my scene really.
My experience of French women is not all it might have been. However, several facts: A survey was done some 20 years ago which put the French in general, at the bottom of the pile for personal hygiene. As for shaving their armpits, legs(amongst other things), I think more of the younger generation do it these days, having lived in Germany for 18 years I've seen what it can do for your 'immediate intentions' when out nights at a local bar or club. It has to be the No.1 put-off for a bloke. At one point, it was a fairly good indicator as to whether a particular girl was likely to let you chat her up, being a Brit or American; if she shaved, she generally approved of going out with Brits/ Americans, usually cos someone had encouraged her to shave before, or she knew from a friend who would have said "If you want to get together with a Brit, you'll need to do some personal manicuring. And I'd have to say, with the Germans it's more of a bra-less thing than a knickerless thing. The French who would appear more attached to their lingerie than most other Europeans, actually tend not to wear as much lingerie as all these adverts or fashion shows would suggest. Infact we went out for an afternoon visit to a beautiful gorge (Gorge d'Heric), and a lovely place for a picnic. There was a group of six just above us - two mothers, two boys and their g/fs or a combination of that sort. Anyway, the two 'mothers' were quite happy to take their bikini tops off. I had to comment to Kerrie; of all the luck, the two I'd have wanted to take their bikini tops off, are the only ones not to. I'm guessing they were probably 18 - 20, but classic French looks (long dark hair etc.,)and figures to die for. But it's something they do, not to be offended by, this topless thing. Germany is fairly liberal with that sort of thing too I guess.

I forgot to say, Kerrie reminded me of the family who live in the village, that we bumped into whilst eating out the other night - they are Americans, he does sculpture work of some nature. They are originally from New York area, and as soon as he opened his mouth I knew he was a New Yorker. Anyway, they're an older couple but very sociable nonetheless. And again, everyone knows everyone, Kerrie's dad introduced us as they spoke briefly.
From what I can gather, the area is quite popular with Americans, and they find the locals quite welcoming.
