BattleField 2

Post by daofcmacg »

I just received my preorder copy (I actually forgot that I ordered it). I walked in to work this morning and found a FedEx box sitting on my chair. Well I need to buy a new video card to play it. I need atleast an NVIDIA 5700 card with 128 of memory on it. So when I'm ship shape and ready to go I will let you guys know unless I decide to sell it.

Good to hear from you DA! Yeah, I may end up getting it as well since there is a COOP workaround which seems to work.

Hey BH, good to have another player. I think only 3 of us here at WOF have BF2 so far. We usually play MP COOP vs bots on our own server (Someone hosts), this way we can work together as a team and don't have to deal with the bunnyhoppers on the MP servers. We did a MP COOP 8 vs 8 on a 32 player map the other night, and it took us well over an hour to complete the mission and attain a victory. It wasn't easy either, there were many back and forth battles.

I tried playing on the MP servers, but there are just too many assclowns around that irritate me to the Nth degree. BF2 is best played with people you know, in a controlled environment.

well, Nidia downloaded the demo last night and tried it out a bit. She said it was fun, but she has a lot to elarn. I tried it a bit too - the environment is amazing.

are there any missions other than capture and hold? do they do real tactical missions? the one thing i really don't like is one player per tank? that is beyond even hit points for tanks...!!! and it looks like that reality mod is a definite need - takes way too many bullets to down someone.

so if Nidia looks like she will play it some, looks like i will be getting a couple of copies. we shall see - i do like ofp gameplay better, but this is more like a fun shoot-em-up game...

I think i mentioned this in another thread, but you can do other tactical type missions within the main game type.

i didn't get a chance to finish what i was writing before.

Within each "game" there are several implicit tactical missions. Each team has a commander who controls a UAV and Artillery. In the rear of each side, there is a UAV control shed, a rader unit, and 2 artillery launchers. These items can only be destroyed by C4, not grenades, tanks, etc. The C4 can only be carried by the specops soldier. Therefore, there is the implicit mission to destroy those valuable assets in each game. These will blind the commander of the other team and deprive them of suppressing arty -- which is quite devastating.

that's true, there are no waypoints or scripting.

i dont know much about the other games. i agree with Steal on takes too many bullets to down someone. but i think the idea is some soldiers have more body armor then others. why it takes more shots.. but get this. ive been on the multi player servers latly to see how the ranking thing works. im up to lance corperal and now have access to the m95 sniper riffle :P

what ive noticed while sniping, is that if you can get a head or neck shot its instant death USUALY. not always though. so head shots seem to make a difference unlike some games. Tanks actualy hold 2 ppl. the main gunner and then the machine gunner on top. in fact i think almost every vehicle allows for a passenger/gunner of some kind. ( maybe not the mobile AA?)

it is interesting game though, its like Halo on Ghostreconoids...

im not a big military buff. so the realism thing i realy dont know alot about. but i did shoot a pilot out of a heli with my m95 that was sweet!

the realism mods go a long way to helping. They lower the jump height and reduce the amount of rounds needed to kill. I can usually drop a guy with 3 single shots to the chest area (not in a burst -- that takes 3 bursts -- lots of recoil).

good that the vehicles take 2 folks - i jumped in one and ran an M1 tank by myself...why is it able to do that if it requires 2? or does it just have the ability to have two?

you only need one to drive it. you get the main cannon and the machine gun. but there is also another machine gun up top that a 2nd person can use.

same goes with most vehicles. except the APC which has a spot for a second man but he fires his own weapon. works ok if he has a anti vehicle weapon or something. Again, not sure about the mobile AA. the buggies can hold 3 and the big heli holds 6 ( pilot. 2 gunners and 3 passengers.) the other heli just holds 2, the pilot and the gunner. i dont know anything about the jets though..

Right, one major realism failing of the BF series is that tanks do not need a 2nd person to be effective. The 2nd is the MG operator, and that's good for anti-infantry or anti-helo cover, but useless against armor. The driver and main gunner are the same position, as opposed to OFP where they are separate. Of course, OFP's tanks have no 2nd MG operator.

ummm...they do. it is the TC (Tank Commander). are you saying you can not fire the TC's .50 cal in OFP??? I was pretty sure you could?

Not that I recall. I seem to remember that only the gunner had any weapons in the tanks. In the modern APCs (Bradley, BMP 2) the cmdr has access to the missiles, I think.

However, I'm nearly positive that the MBTs in the game do not feature a separate MG for use when unbuttoned. Your use is to call out targets for the gunner and driver as they have severely limited FOVs. Not that it's not usable, I mean I don't even see one there.

I'll probably buy the game this weekend. I think I've been convinced now to get it.
