Yeah, I played Castlevania all the time like 17 years ago! Holy crud, it's been that long? Sigh. There was also a Castlevania arcade version.
I remember using the whip all the time to blow out candles and avoiding the ghouls.

Never had a clue what it was, but I do remember playing that game where you go on an adventure, asking questions of different characters, and trying to get past the troll on the bridge etc., can't remember what it was called. Played it on the ZX-81 I think . . . .

Did the troll ask....
1. What is your name?
2. What is your quest?
3. What is the average wing velocity of a coconut-laden swallow?

I honestly can't remember! All I remember of the game is starting out inside a cave, and having to get past the troll at some point fairly soon after.

Back then it was likely Zork or a contemporary.

Is that an African or European swallow?

Well, there were several releases of it, and I can't remember which ones my sister played. Perhaps Return to Castlevania? She had the original and later SNES, so I don't recall offhand.
By the time she got the NES, I was already flying Gunship and F-19 on my dad's 8088!
