Also, JO is a lot more stable and works better overall, with extra time having been devoted to its mods compared to BF2.
Another thing I dislike about BF2 is with this ranking thing you don't get access to every weapon--they have to be "unlocked" by playing on ranked servers, and they can't be used in SP/coop! Unless they've made a mod for that...
Then there's the fact that SP maps are all 16-player and don't support helos/jets by default.
Bottom line is I still love JO. BF2 just has way too many shortcomings--I'd rather stick with BFV w/Point of Existence mod (same era, weapons, vehicles as BF2).

I actually like the gameplay of BF2 better. It's more replayable and less frustrating. I used to get frustrated quickly with the coop in JO. I really liked the adversarial MODE in JO, however I didn't like the style of our adversaries.
In BF2, the whole game is that adversarial mode, but the adversaries (AI) aren't omnipotent, cheating/gaming rushers. You can join up in a coop-adversarial style map and play WOF style gameplay and still be successful.
And, if I'm not mistaken, you can join in progress.
I haven't had any stability trouble with BF2.
There is a mod to unlock the weps and there are mods arriving to open up the bigger maps. I flew a F-35 in SP yesterday. Wild. I was commanding the battle from the LHD. Nice.
As to COOP: "Hack" is not the right word for the way coop works in BF2. I would describe it this way: Coop is mislabeled in the UI. The didn't make it a UI option, but the singleplayer mode is the coop mode.
The maps are very nicely done. Nice atmosphere, nice layout.
Don't believe everything you read in the bf2 forums ... Don't get me wrong - it's not perfect. I would like better/official support for the bigger maps. I might like more weapon/kit variety (if the M4 with/without M203, sniper, saw, mp5, at4, c4 aren't enough). However, the mod community is addressing these.
I'm playing with several "realism" mods right now - I would be willing to bet the realism mod teams get together and release a combo realism mod that combines the best of each. Where DICE/EA tried to balance gameplay, these mods are changing wep stats, etc to be more realistic. Most are nicely done.
