Post by daofcmacg »

I just purchased an upgraded package for my DSL, I now have 1.5 to 3.0mps download and 384mps upload. I won't go into effect until next Wed.

When downloading my screen normally shows around 57Kbps - which I would say was probably fairly slow considering I'm supposed to have a 2MB line. I'm guessing the potential 'speed' of the line/connection only comes into it's own when gaming or on unrestricted BW sites. Can anyone provide a bigger picture here, I'm not looking for it to be all technical just simply put, so everyone can understand.

you are likely limited on the download side by the site and connections you are actually downloading from. some sites/servers have limitations on how much each session has in bandwidth but mostly it is all of the intervening cnnections between you and the actual server.

there are some bandwidth tests in the u.k. that you can use to test...

How do DSL subscription prices in the UK compare with the US? I'm just curious.

When I had Earthlink DSL, I paid $40 USD per month. This was back in 2001.

With a special that they are having to push this service I'm actually spending one dollar less than I was before on a slower connection speed. I was paying 25.99 USD to 24.99 USD starting today. I have to uninstall my old firewall software disconnect the Router/Modem then install the new software and plug up the new Modem and I am up and running.

Yes, I recently raised the bar to a 2MB connection from 512K, and the price of my agreement dropped from 24.99 to 15.99 per month. 8) But that isn't as dramatic as it may seem, it's simply that the cost has dropped from the time I began my contract.
