Serenity

Post by PanzerMeyer »

Did anyone here watch "Serenity" yet? This is the movie based on the short lived tv show "Firefly". I know Jedimaster saw it as well as I. It was a pretty decent movie but I think people who have seen the tv episodes will get a lot more out of it than people who have not seen the shows.

Not seen it yet, but I plan to. I missed Firefly when it was first run on FOX, but I've been watching it on SciFi. More good stuff from Joss Whedon, the guy who brought us BtVS and Angel.

I never watched his other 2 series. Buffy and Angel just weren't my "thing." I did see the movies he's been involved with writing, including the film version of Buffy, Alien Resurrection, Toy Story, etc.

The film version of Buffy = ugh. The TV series is a whole different animal. Some of the best writing *ever* on a TV series. It is, however, a somewhat difficult show to get into because you can't sit down and watch an episode here or there and keep up with what's going on.

Here's a good website with info on the show: http://www.chosentwo.com/buffy/info.php

See also: http://www.chosentwo.com/angel/info.php

I believe Whedon also had a hand in the first X-men film, but I'm not sure to what extent.

if seen almost every episode since its been on sci-fi. havnt gotten to see the movie yet. love the theme song though!

"Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me

Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't coming back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me

There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me"

Saw Serenity last night and WOW!! I am a BIG fan of the Firefly series (I have the DVD set), and I wasn't sure what to expect from the movie version. I was TOTALLY blown away from the movie. If you know the series and the characters, then watching Serenity is like a kid a christmas time. I was all smiles the whole way through the movie. They explained some of the questions/mysteries (ie who/what are the Reavers?) from the series in the movie, very cool.

Even if you have not seen the original Firefly series, you will not miss a beat in the film. Although knowledge of Firefly will greatly increase your movie enjoyment. There was one "incident" near the end of the film that had me leaving the theater in a state of shock. I'm not sure why this happened, but I was saddened from the results. I will not reveal the "incident" so as not to ruin the movie experience for others, but all I have to say is WTF!?!?

I can't say enough good things about this movie, it was well worth the price of admission. I give it TWO thumbs up. 8)

The theme song from the Firefly series is great, however I do not remember hearing it in the movie.

I also dont recall the theme song being played in either the opening or ending credits.

I thought the movie was "ok". Not great but certainly not bad. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4.

If you speak of what I think you speak of, we were shocked as well. The first one, a little earlier, was mildly shocking, but that was a real surprise at the end. I can't wait for the DVD to hear his commentary about WHY he did what he did.
