bf2 server

Post by Hammer »

well i have been messing around and have a dedicated server set up... anyone know or can find out if the dedicated server can run coop missions? it is default right now with the bf2cc server admin stuff set up, pretty cool. i have downloaded the prmm 0.2 and am getting ready to install that...but i am not sure it is worth it if the dedicated server can not run coop missions.

Since coop aren't officially supported, and are only possible by running a solo game and having others connect to you by direct IP, I don't think you can do it with a ded server, no.

i have found acouple that look promising...

the WCC coop mod (seems they run a dedicated coop server) and the coop 4.0 mod...

looks like WCC may be preferable - they seem to go a bit more for realism.

still, not sure if a dedicated server is worth it until more folks get this game as one if us hosting seems to work just fine.

Ah, so there are now actual coop mods out there, besides the stock game workaround? That's good to know!

Jedi,
Yes. i have installed a couple to check them out... i wonder what the possibility is of them bringing coop into the game officially with the spec ops addon... i may be able to figure out how to run the coops on the dedicated server. not sure yet.

DA, just have the game up to date. that is it right now. we have hardly played this game anyway - so not sure if it is going to take off or not.

I would play it more if more people besides Steel, Gator, and myself had it . DA has it but I haven't seen him join us in game yet. The times that we have played it, it has been quite fun.

Comparing BF2 to Joint Ops, I would have to say Joint Ops has a slight edge due to it's MP coop design and the fact that it's mission based, not capture point based. BF2 looks better though I think. I like both games for what they offer, so I'm happy either way. I do wish we played Joint Ops more.

Me too. The recent patches have made the Reality Mod a bit wonky, and that has hurt its playability.

really? is that re: JO and reality mod 192 and 198?

there is another reality mod for JO, is there not?

the WCC coop mod for BF2 looks good. you can run it dedicated coop, so that might be a good choice. there is also a capture and advance mod that is new (as in JO). as far as coop, i do not remember that much about JO - are there other mission types with RL type objectives (not that capture and advance is not that unlike RL).

both games tanks are really hokey - i wish there was a way to make them more realistic, but i think the BF2 are a step in the right direction if comparing the two...at least you have two positions vs one.

well, it seems that WCC coop is limited to the 16 player maps...

http://www.wccsquad.com/modules.php?nam ... pic&t=5346

but per info in that thread the coop ver 4 mod allows it with 64 player maps, but could be unstable and does not have any realism enhancements.

so we probably just stick to hosting for ourselves right now? any comments?

how about those JO questions?

The Brutal Arts Reality Mod for JO is the one I mean.
From what I understand, it currently only works with STOCK maps. Any 3rd party maps seem to be broken to various degrees, from triggers that don't...trigger to not loading at all.
I don't know what the deal is with the .2 release for Reality, but it will hopefully fix that? The main problem is of course that you MUST patch JO when NL does, I don't think you can hold off, so if a patch breaks a mod you're SOL.

I'm sure the 2 recent patches moved their timetable back and quite likely pissed them off. Aren't they supposed to go to BF2 when they finish the .2 mod anyway?

I frankly think NL had a good idea that they failed to execute properly. They got more than halfway, but dropped the ball. Despite the upcoming "gold" release, I don't think JO will recover to where it was right around the time Escalation came out.

well, if they would do vehicles a bit more realistically, it would probably get played more here...and if they made it a bit more moddable.

BF2 seems to be on the right track, but we will see how full scale coop turns out.

i would like a few of us to get together and play on the WCC server...

you might check ebay as well. might get a cheaper copy. be advised an addon is to be released soon - not sure when exactly but i hope we control it a bit better in the group than we did escalation. several folks went and got escalation right away and left the rest of us out in the cold...and then the game has hardly been played. i would like us as a group to decide when to move to an expansion, if it makes sense and is possible. it is just plain more fun when we can all be involved (hell, i am not even playing anything single player any more - i don't like it really...).

Good possibility DA. Not sure what time I'll be on, but I'll try and get on early so we can play a few maps. Make sure you DL the WCC 0.4 Mod too, I got mine from Filefront.com.

Sorry I missed you softball, will be looking for you online tonight for some rip roaring good times. I went to filefront.com and found two files same size and same name about 118.90 in size and it was a zip file named codename_wcc_coop_v04.zip. Is that the right file that I need?
