Moving Up the Internet Ranks

Post by PanzerMeyer »

Yeah baby! In about 1 hours time I will be going from a 356k upload to a 768k upload and from a 6 mb download to an 8 mb download. How much? Just an extra $10 per month. This means that I should be able to host game servers now with much more reliable connectivity.

i am pretty sure the issues we have been seeing with your hosting pacific fighters is your pc and not your bandwidth. it is the spawning in of ai flights and intense action that causes the stuttering.

if you set up a dedicated machine to host, that may work better... maybe just put that 'player' in a dummy plane or some such? would need some investigation on how to do that.

I trust THAT is the beauty of "join in progress" games? The fact that you don't have to do that sort of thing - arrange to put that 'player' in a dummy plane?

Nah, it's definitely his internet. As soon as he hosts, his ventrilo craps with MASSIVE delays. When he's the client, his comms instantly return to normal.

This started sometime in mid-December, and he didn't downgrade his computer or anything then.

The issue, however, is that his old upload speed was nominally the same as mine, 384kbps, yet I don't get the issues when I host that he does. While he can get those numbers on an instantaneous basis, it's the sustained bandwidth over the course of 5-10 minutes that isn't maintained.
If he can at least sustain 384k now...
