OT a little, but I'd really like to have seen the Challenger II in the Steel Beasts sim that's about to hit the street. I'm guessing there must have been some form of copyright issue or something of that nature. Seems strange they should have to leave out all the Brit stuff. :?

I cant believe the publisher/developer did that. I've never played any of the Steel Beasts games but I would think that any comprehensive and serious modern armor simulator should include tanks from all the major powers which have significant armored forces (US, UK, Russia, France, Germany, China, etc).

Maybe they've justified it by virtue of the fact that there would be too many to model accurately enough in a single product. Perhaps the scenarios are created so as to explain their absence as well.

I mean, LOMAC has a few Russian jets and 2 US jets. You can sit there all day long saying "why wasn't plane XYZ included?", but in the end there's a ton of reasons why.

That's true enough really Jedi. But given that recent times have seen the employment of two particular MBTs from the NATO/UN alliance, it seems that something must have gotten in the way. Considering that their customer base isn't huge by any standard, you'd think they would want to make it appeal to as many potential customers as possible, eh? Which is why I considered the copyright problem, seeing as we have our own simulators & sim software packages, and how that set-up exists, I would not discount it being the main reason - the Warrior AFV series and Challenger MBT are effectively produced by the same company, and maybe they have a monopoly on that side of things too. Without ruffling any feathers I may well prod around for an answer on their forums, I'm sure that I am not the only or first person to query that subject.

it is not copyright, rather the secrecy of the British govt./military... the SB team just does not have enough information on that tank to make the simulation model with enough fidelity (to their standards). there are lots of posts about that in the SimHQ SB forum and the SteelBeasts.com forums...

OMG!  I shoulda guessed Steel would get to reading up on that before me . . . .evening Mr. Steel.
I DO understand the secrecy surrounding CR2, being a part of the CR2 maintainer group, I see and am involved with security monitoring of any visits that take place locally. Only permitting the visitor to do/see certain things within the turret - NO PHOTOGRAPHS PLEASE GENTLEMEN! LOL!
I'm an armoured systems engineer by trade - which means I am qual'd and responsible for the armoured vehicles electrical & computer controlled electronic systems on armoured vehicles of all types. Turret systems engineer as you guys might refer to it for CR2 I am responsible for ALL electronic systems in the turret - computer control electronics, optical sighting sub systems, thermal imaging sighting sub systems, ammunition selection & ballistic calculations yadda yadda yadda! But, being one of the earliest qualified to maintain the CR2 I am also qual'd on hull control systems for the engine management, gear control, fire warning & suppression systems, air con systems, nuclear biological chemical (NBC) fighting environment sub-system etc., So basically, if it's got wires on, it's my responsibility! Unlike many others though, I have also experienced CR2 maintenance at level 4, which is PCB diagnostics & repair/replacement within the control boxes.
Other systems on which I am qualified / experienced:
CR1
Chieftain
Swingfire/Striker
MLRS
Warrior AFV - (all variants) FV510series:
FV510 - Infantry APC
FV511 - Command Veh
FV512 - REME Rec'y/Repair
FV513 - REME Rec'y
FV514 - OPV
FV515 - BCV
AS 90 155 SP
AFV FV 430 series - all
GPDTDF
GPTIRF

I see. Well, I'll give him a shout. I can always run everything past the relevant authorities before offering up any info. That way I stay above board.
