Who is watching Who?

Post by Tach Deneva »

On the SciFi channel, Friday nights? First time I've seen any Doctor Who since the Tom Baker era in the 70s.

I've watched this program since I was a kid. Was always fascinated with the old series - the 'special effects' and costuming of Dr Who's adversaries. But getting the chance to look back these days you can see just how atrocious they really were! Laughable even. Jon Pertwee is still the real Dr Who for me though.

Like many programs, as things change I also lose interest. Mainly because my interest wasn't only generated by the plot, but also by the various characters. You wouldn't find me watching many James Bond films these days unless they were the old ones with Sean Connery or Roger Moore playing 007. Just the same as I don't watch the Highlander series, because it hasn't got the same attraction as the films did with Sean Connery & Christopher lambert. It just doesn't cut it.

I'm avid fan of the new and old series. In fact I've seen, I believe anyway, ever single episode of Doctor Who ever made going all the way back to the very first episode. The special effects were hokey, the soundtrack was unforgettable, and the plot lines were very well written. I don't think the new series has lost any of the attributes that made the old series endearing and interesting to watch. The new series can be hokey at times, the new doctor is intelligent and witty, the plot lines are well established but not rehashed of the series, the music and effects are good but no so good that they lose that certain quality the old series had.

Maybe I'll get around to talking a look sometime. I know that Billy Piper is, or was in the latest series. maybe that should be enough to keep me interested - but only if she's doing an Anne Summers catwalk special episode!
