Steel Beasts Pro PE

Post by Softball »

Steel, how about we schedule some practice this week with SBPPE?

I'm itching to try this out in MP, even if it's just some training. I'm sure we can make a simple training mission where we can both control some tanks and practice shooting targets. Let me know.

I shall be purchasing this in the near future, but it depends on when I manage to sell up my Bergen (Berghaus Atlas II 120Ltr rucksack - olive), and Arktis Ranger chest rig in DPM. Unfortunately, as we have so much going on at the moment with my resettlement, I am having to generate my own funds for my hobbies anyway. :(

I created a new d/l folder for SBPPE, just so I'll have those files already whenever I get my copy.

Kodiak,

Do you have the latest version of Media player installed? Version 10 I believe? Also, you might wanna make sure you have DIVX installed, I'm not sure if Movie Maker 2.1 uses Divx to compress the video. Give it a shot.

Okay, that seemed to do it! Re-installing 10.1! Previously, I have 'installed' 10.1 and it never quite installed at the end, it never seemed to finish correctly, this time it did. :?
Anyway, nice video, thx.

How about a debrief from last nights SBPPE mission?

I wish I knew why the game kicked me to the desktop. Same thing happened when we played that first time Steel. The screen turns white, I still hear audio from in game, and then boom, to the desktop, no error message. When I ALT+TAB back to the game, it says Connection Lost or something like that.

I am wondering if I am accidentally hitting the "WINDOWS" key on my keyboard? It's right next to my Ventrilo Chat Hotkey. Is there a way to disable the Windows Key? (The key usually between the Left CTRL and Left ALT keys)

I REALLY enjoyed that mission, lots of stuff going on. I'm glad you were the CO and not me. :P

i think you are somehow inadvertantly dropping yourself to the desktop. remember alt-tab screws up the network game connection as well... next time Gator should host and we can see if it is any better.

Gator stuck around for a while... i ended up consolidating a lot of immmobolized-remobilized assets and hit the objective with Mike Co. with K Troop overwatching. Lima and India were in blocking positions to the south... Sadly, there were no enemy troops left in the Objective area. They were all dead. Gator had some sharp action to the north in your sectors short after you left. Two of his tanks were immobilized - one permanently. We lost only 3 tanks and 4 Bradley's total loss - a few more were just immobilized/damaged. The score still said we lost - I am not sure why. I would need to look at that mission in the mission editor for the victory conditions. Discounting score, we actually did very well.

there is no way that is a medium mission...not with a whole ACR.

Not sure I understand why correct style of victory conditions cannot be programmed these days. If the enemy run away or can be programmed to surrender at a certain point of losses, or all get killed, then that is a victory condition. If they continue to fight, you haven't won anything at that point - you're just at an advantage. And at an advantage can soon turn around on you if the enemy spring a surprise!

it may just be that the mission designer is not that good with victory conditions. personally, i don't like point methods...

SB and Gator,
the programmer seems to have fixed the minimizing thing. i asked if he wanted us to test over the weekend.

I could probably schedule some time to test. Are you talking about the problem of losing the network connection when alt-tab is used?

Also, I'd be glad to try to host. Let's see if there's also any improvement with my increased bandwidth. I can consistently get 1800 kbps upload, which should be plenty.
