Apart from these small issues, I trust you guys are generally having a trouble-free time with this game?

Cool! Well, I may have sufficient funds sometime at the end of this month. See how we go.

SBPPE is amazing Kodiak, well worth the $. I really wish we had more people here at WOF playing this, I know a few aren't because of the cost. :?

I understand tank sims aren't for everyone, but man, SBPPE is the most fun I have had in gaming since OFP was released back in 2001. I would love to play SBPPE on a nightly basis, it's that good.

Considering you're the guy who buys just about everything on the shelf, I'd say it has to be pretty special if you're hooked on it.

I have bought good games/sims, I have bought bad games/sims, SBPPE is definately a good "sim". For the record, the last game I bought was Oblivion, but I pre-ordered that last October/November. I also pre-ordered SBPPE in hopes of getting it for Christmas, but didn't get it until March 2006.

Hey, what can i say, I love games. :) Actually, I have been getting better with buying games. I have been playing games I already have (World of Warcraft lately), so no need to go Softball. :P

The next few games on my "must get" list are GRAW, ArmA (OFP 1.5), NWN2, and I'm still waiting to see how Fighter Ops pans out. The PC Market isn't putting out many quality games/sims as of late, so my Softball days are slowly dying.

Well, Falcon4AF was a good little treat, but they've failed to reach the market's requests/demands - all the goodies that we found in FF3, but with the stability would have been nice. But they stopped short unfortunately. :? :(
Having said that, they have pledged there will be a v1.07 patch at least. And they claim that they are focussing on their new latest product, as of v1.06 patch release. Their latest patch claims to be everything that is good about Falcon4AF, and much more besides. In which case we should see a decent dynamic campaign, and a good study sim of the F-16 (or maybe that'll be the F-35? We can but dream there). Hopefully they will be providing some decent additions, such as dual cockpits, fly other aircraft. That's only my opinion of what we need to see though.
Fighter Ops it seems will provide us with something in the latter half of this year - seems a little too early considering how much we have yet to 'see' from them. But they have also said that they will not be providing any demo or such material. So, I'm guessing the first thing we WILL see is the whole damn product! 8) The mother of all sims? I certainly hope so.

Steel, do we need this patch(2.262)? If so, do we install it over the current version?(2.257?)

i highly suggest getting it. this is the version that has gone through the more rigorous beta test cycle and issues fixed. we will have to uninstall and reinstall...

Well then, it's a good thing I made a backup of my original install folder. :D

Will install this patch tonight.

New computer is getting there, had a few issues with Windows update(Computer would freeze if I attempted to update or goto the Device manager screen), but I "think" I figured out why. First possibility, I have/had 4 GB of ram installed, I researched what the max RAM for WinXP is and it's 4GB, including the pagefile! Second possibility, I'm not sure if this had anything to do with the freezing, but before I attempted to update to SP1 and SP2, I had installed the Video card drivers(7900 GTX) and Sound card drivers (SBXFi). For whatever reason, the computer ran fine until I updated to SP1, then the freezing up started.

Fastforward....I didn't know what the problem was, so I reformatted the HD and reinstalled WinXP Pro. This time, I removed 2 GB of RAM for 2GB total (A few comments on the RAM later), I installed the OS, the MB drivers, then immediately ran Windows Update and installed SP1 and SP2. Everything installed, no problems at all. So far, so good.

Now my comments on the DDR RAM, I am running PC 3200 400Mhz Corsair XMS DDR RAM. When I first booted up the computer, the BIOS screen listed the RAM running at 333Mhz. When I went into the BIOS, I saw that it was set on AUTO. WTH? If this is PC3200 400Mhz DDR RAM, shouldn't it read 400Mhz under the AUTO setting? So, I MANUALLY set the RAM speed to 400Mhz, as that's what it should be running at IMO.

Now, as I stated above, I removed 2GB (2 sticks) of the 4GB I had installed. When I was removing the 2GB of RAM, I noticed the sticks were hotter than usual. I have removed RAM before and don't remember it being that hot. Is this because of me running it at the higher 400Mhz speed? Or mabye because of the heatsink type sleeves that are on the outside of the RAM sticks? My previous RAM sticks did not have the heatsink type sleeves on them like these ones do, so maybe they are absorbing the heat. Soon as I get everything reinstalled (Drivers, Utilities, games, DX9, etc...), I will place the 2GB of RAM back in the system and see if the freezing problem returns.

Other than the above listed issues, the computer is extremely fast, boots up in less that 20 seconds and shuts down in less than 5 seconds. I'll report back later with more as I progress. I plan on taking some photos of the system before I set it in place for regular gaming. I'll post them here for your viewing pleasure. :)

faster RAM runs hotter. larger ram sticks run hotter.

what cpu do you have? it may be limited on the number of ranks of ram it can do at 400MHz.

if you ask me, 4GB is way overkill...unless you are going to do 64bit.

I have the Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual Core CPU. Not sure what you mean by ranks...

I think I will only run 2GB (Dual Channel), that should be good enough. I'll put the other 2GB in Debi's computer. I am upgrading her computer too, with my current parts.
