LOMAC still alive?

Post by PanzerMeyer »

Anyone here still interested in flying LOMAC besides me and Jedi? We flew it last night with the new 1.12a patch and I can say with confidence that the F-15 has been improved and fixed quite a bit.

I'm still trying to figure out missile performance, though. Whether flying Russian or US the enemies seem to spoof every damn missile you fire!

Yes Hades, FC expansion and I guess now this new patch. :?

I'm still around, just have to find the time to play it. I have been quite involved with SBPPE as of late, so that's been taking alot of my time.

Steel may even still have that copy of his. I was hoping to purchase, but aqpart from not having the loose change to send him for it, my interest is waning. Mainly due to the newer stuff that's come out. Not to mention, I am not getting much time online at the mo, with everyone else.

From what I can tell, the Black Shark expansion is still quite some way off! Certainly not sooner than fall. They're still working on what I would consider alpha feature work, beta is yet to begin.

Jedi Master and I both have the expansion and we would love to do some online COOP games with you. You should be able to order Flaming Cliffs online from lockon.ru Just let me know which days and times would be most convenient for you and we can do our best to setup some Cooperative sessions.

Hades,

SBPPE (Steel Beasts Pro Personal Edition, $125) is a tank "sim" that Steel, Gator, and myself have been playing. It's the successor to the original SB...same simulation, better graphics and more content. It's as hardcore of a Tank sim that you'll ever see. You can check out the details here: http://www.steelbeasts.com/. There is a thread on this sim in the Misc Ground Combat forum, check it out. There are some screenshots and videos there as well.

I think I've learned that many of the problems we've had of late with LOMAC are due to using missions made under old patches. They change AI behavior and technical specs such that a fun mission under 1.02 is total crap under 1.11, or a tough mission in 1.10 is impossible under 1.12!

ADA on "excellent" can shoot down missiles...even shoulder-launched Iglas! I think many of the mission makers out there set all the enemy AI to this and it results in ridiculous circumstances. I recall one mission we had a SEAD escort flight...that was shot down by enemy ADA without killing a single one back!

I definitely recall missions where we had all our mavericks shot down by some of the defenses.

Have to say, shooting down A-G missiles sounds just a shade bloody ridiculous IMHO! We would in reality be talking more by luck than judgement, especially on something that sort of size. There are systems around designed for that purpose (Phalanx), but they are for larger, medium sized cruise type missiles.

Ok, found the dirt on it, straight from Wags.

If you have ADA units grouped closely, they share targeting data. That means units that normally would not be able to shoot at missiles, like Iglas, will be able to. The fix is to space them properly, and I guess many of the missions we have do NOT have them spaced properly. :?

So, it's more a mechanism of the programming than a bodged attempt at realistic programming.?

It's a bug because of the way they setup ADA networks. If you don't use units that shouldn't be able to shoot down missiles, it's fine. If you stick something like an Igla or SA-13 in there too close to the others, now they can do it too.

So, it's all about how the mission maker places his units.
