ok let me take a swing at this. If I remmeber right, the plugin is just a small component using the flash 9 stough but not a full player. It runs only through the browser. the Windows flash player is a full player that dose not require a browser. If you upgrade your windows one to 9, it normaly well install the plugin for you, but it don't go the other way around.

I could be wrong, but I think thats how it works.

I can't find the stand alone flash player for windows, only the one for Internet Explorer.

I seem to recall Flash was always viewed from within a browser only, never standalone. Unless it was an .exe, which some were.

However, I think Adobe bought Flash, so it's a different company now.

Your right but if you receive a flash file from someone in a download a seperate windows opens that is a flash player and it tells me that the version is 7.0. something or another. There are two seperate entities.

DA, do you have the latest version of Quicktime? I think that plays Flash files outside of IE. Check what version of Quicktime you have.
