Tech Issue #2

Post by PanzerMeyer »

Now that I've reinstalled Windows XP, I would like to know if there is any way possible that I can avoid having to reinstall all my games. If I look under ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, none of my games are listed even though all the folders and directories are still there on my D drive. Is there anything I can do to make Windows recognize that I have those games installed or am I screwed and have to reinstall them?

Thanks in advance.

You will have to reinstall them unfortunately.

I was afraid you were going to say that. Sigh.

Thanks anyway for all your help Softball. I really wish I at least knew what caused my cd/rom problem in the first place.

yup...

if you had done a repair instead of a reinstall, it would have worked better. just know that option is there in case there is a next time.

im pretty sure its not the best thing to do, but what i used to do was just install windows over the old one. usualy it would fix what ever problems there were and kept all my old settings. i call it a overlay install. but again im sure there are better less lazy ways to go about it lol.

I did do a repair first but I got all of these "cannot find .dll file" error messages after I rebooted. I also could not launch IE. I was getting "ieexplore.exe could not be found". After that happened, THEN I did the OS reinstall.
