Did you know the original story line for the episode that pic comes from called for a Japanease sword (Katina) but he wanted to use a foil, and said he had experience with them. He did not and his first lesson was the next day lol.

He also thought that the use of a katana would be stereotypical since he's Japanese. The use of a Western foil would be more interesting since it would be unexpected by the audience.

He pulled it off well, though. Certainly looked like he knew fencing. The calls of "Richelieu!" were a good touch.

He only had a few lessons by that point so he was not near a expert but he would have has some basics down by then. I wuld assume he would have had private lessons to get him looking like he had a clue lol
