Hail dings the shuttle
this is interesting
Hail delays shuttle launch as it dented the foam on the tank
http://space.newscientist.com/article/d ... ail-damage
tho I want to know who went out there and counted all 7000 dings and if they got the license place of that hail storm

I really don't care about the shuttle and all the nonsense behind it. They need to start from scratch IMHO. But long as you go with the lowest bidder you will always have issue's outside of weather.
Has anybody heard about the new Halo program that the Marine Corps. is looking to impliment in about 30 years. The whole purpose is to put a sort of MEU detachment anywhere in the world within 2 hours by launching an aircraft from a secret location in the USA which will inturn hit the outside layer of the stratosphere traverse all airspace(thus not needing to ask permission to fly thru a foreign countries soverign airspace) then land in the country in question and quick deploy the 13 or so troops and equipment on the ground before you can blink your eye.
Here is a link to check out:

and here is the article in popular science:

Daofcmacg? Currently the International Space Station needs the Space Shuttle to be completed. Hence the word International. Lots of Countries are coming together and contributing to this One Space Station that’s owned by a proud planet call Earth. The space Shuttle also sends large satellites into orbit. ( like the Hubble telescope ) What does that offer you at this point and time? Nothing… except A cats eye about what your children will be seeing in the near future.
I think some people are more narrow minded about this and are focusing on the hear and now , meaning they actually forget about what it would be like for their children growing up in the next few decades. It’s understandable… What with all the cheap tricks , money grabbing and gold digging the government and nearby public has been presenting over the last few years ever since 911. Most everyone has their own agenda about living well and has trying to. But , It’s not like it used to be with a friendly hand shake while doing business. It’s more like greed and deception.
Okay where was I ?
Oh yeah, we need to expand from this planet to populate the human race into other solar systems. I wont be around when that happens so what do I care ? , well I do,. because I have a natural instinct to keep the human population alive and doing well, thriving throughout the galaxy. ( like a Star Trek) How can we do that? Well… we all need to work together so it can be achieved. People need to be more forethought in seeing our future in order for this to happen.
One day, this planet will have a food shortage because it’s over populated. Cows wont do well without eating wheat , rice wont grow when the atmosphere and weather have changed. And It’s changing. Somebody need to do something about it , or were all going to haft to pay for it sooner or later if no one cares. Like the movie Soylent Green with Charlton Heston. Do you really want that to happen?
So lets gets started by launching the Space Shuttle. Lets build a National Space Station! Lets start Terrorforming Mars. Lets pave a path for the Next Generation so they can keep it going and keep the human race alive.
Whelp I’m going to get out my Six inch telescope with a 1400 focal length and start star gazing again. It’s a good time of year to do it. Saturn is up , Orion Nebula , and I think there’s a meteor shower coming up in the first few days in March. Plus I might see a few galaxies this time around. I’ll be back just before SG1 kicks off in April.

We're in the pipe , five by five.
Thats one thing I RELAY miss about being in NewFundLand, I could look up and just see stars. I never had a useful telescope and would love to star gaze. but Toronto are and Detroit area you an't going to see as much. But I would still love to get a nice telescope (with computer control to point me where the interesting crap is) and just look at some of the cool things out there.

The best place I've seen the stars was in Panama at Naval Station Rodman and Howard Air Force base in the winter when it was about 110 degree's at night (of course we all know that winter dosen't exsist there). Around August you could forget it, looking up was like trying to rotate the props on a E-2C to put them in tiedown position.

I still say best place I have ever seen stars was newfoundland. COLD winter night when you see the ring around the moon, its Cristal clear conditions and can see for miles. And on those nights you can see just about anything. But even in summer 21 degrees Celsius (a real temp system) you can still see just about anything. No major cities for near by. the only major city is still not really that big to begin with. One thing I have done no matter where I went to was look up. Detroit, Toronto, Woodstock (Ontario), Calaforina, Vernion BC, da da da da da and no matter where I went best was Newfoundland
