Some interesting articles here
first one, basically talks about how you need RAM. To be percise they say to get Vista to live up to its proclaimed speeds and such, you need 4 GB of ram. needless to say for home pc's this is what I would call a lot. I figured 2 GB was a good number these days, but to get 4 GB today for a home pc with dual channel means 2 2GB chips and lord knows that an't cheep these days if you want decent ram. Now that being said 2GB dose run vista well, but to get the proper performance to speeds of XP, you want RAM and lots of it. Seams Windows never could break away from Windows NT 4 memory hog system. As in NT you wanted as much as you could afford after robbing the 5th national bank on a good day.

Second article and this is a bit more importand as hell we all knew windows in general was a bloated peace of scrap that requires the best absolute system to get any decent speed out of the os. this one is a review of M$ Vista's security measures which should be important to all of us. Last thing we need when we are about to get thta head shot, jsut click the mouse button and get lag because some trojen form a web site got through IE and is now spam mailing people. Its a 3 page good review, but they are unimpressed in the end and to be honest considering my experience with UNIX, Mac and Linux I can't say I am impressed either. Step in the right direction, but not enough and a LOT late. I still stick by my guns that win2000 is what win95 should have been.

Veg,
I hate to disagree ... but I will.
I am not sure who that author is, but it seems like he messed something up. Maybe he doesn't have all the right drivers, maybe his games aren't all patched. Who knows. Also, who would assume that an ATI 1950 (or even two) could run Company of Heroes and NWN2 at their highest settings? Did he even patch Company of Heroes?
On my Vista system, Company of Heroes shows up with a recommended rating of 4.0 -- he said it showed up as 1. I run NWN2 (which shows up as a 5.0) with full settings and it runs like a dream. Company of Heroes is gorgeous and very playable. And I'm running them all with the crappy nvidia drivers (sarcasm, of course - both my nvidia MOBO drivers and the 8800 drivers are now non-beta WHQL and work fine). Supreme Commander is also a 5.0 and it runs great.
So far, and I obviously haven't gone back and installed all my oldest games, I haven't had a gaming problem that could be traced back to Vista. So far, the only problems I have were with DoW and it was an nvidia problem and was also present on XP (and is now solved) and my ventrilo problem (stops working in SupCom) -- doesn't really point to Vista, I'm leaning toward the beta Creative drivers.
Installing a new OS isn't for everyone, but Vista hasn't been a problem for me. I always felt that computer software complaints on the internet can mostly be traced to user error. I tested most of my stuff out on a non-critical machine to make sure I wouldn't have any problems -- otherwise, I wouldn't have installed it on my gaming rig. I've been happy with it.

i dont know the technicals. but as a user i see the point in waiting if you want a trouble free ride using Vista. that gives MS a chance to do fixes, the game industries to make patches. and the hardware industries to make drivers. even though when i used the version i did on my gameing rig it worked fine. and NWN2 actualy worked better then on the winxp rig for some reason ( i had random crashes on the XP rig, and on vista they turned into slight pauses. )
the only problem i have with Vista and mainly MS. is the vista push... what i mean is you cant hardly buy a PC or notebook without it installed. if i had a choice in the matter i would of gotten a notebook with XP on it instead. mainly for the reasons above, at least then i would know the drivers were up to date etc. on my notebook it runs a little slugish, i realy wish it had XP on it, at least i know my way around that to disable all the posh and glitter to help it run a little faster. that is the main reason i posted the thread about my notebook when i got it. becuse im curious if getting another copy of XP would be better then leaving the vista on it.

I'd answer you this way:
If it came preinstalled and you are covered by tech support, I would leave vista on it. If your hardware is supported and powerful enough (which they should be if it was sold that way from a reputable company), you should be fine once you learn your way around it.

Vista and FlashPlayer???? Play Nice Please!!!!!
OK WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH M$!!!!! I put my USB jumpdrive in, navigate to it and look for one of my custom .swf files that I created with swish. I double click and low and behold I get that familar window saying that windows can't run this do you want to go to the damn web, so I say yes thinking I forgot flash player but guess what I didn't, the plug-in was installed but VISTASHIT won't play it outside of IE! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT!!!!!!! excuse my language and I promise it won't happen again (atleast until the next VISTASHIT problem happens!)
I am in the process of trying to find a fix but the time it took me to figure out that if you have account control on, no activex activity will happen to install anything including shockwave player. KILLLLL M$$$$!!!!!!!!

thats the thing, I'm not trying to use a web browser. I am trying to use the player standalone with an .swf file I created. I thought the plug-in player was instrumental in running the player. Think of this like I'm running a quicktime from the desktop, same difference but its with flashplayer.

I think I figured out the problem. When I solve it I will let you guys know, but onto somthing else. What do you guys know about this substitute memory (I will call it that), the ability to purchase a usb jumpdrive and in effect use it as swapfile space but for memory allocation and application. In essence you go from 2gig of memory to lets say you bought a 2gig jump drive you now have 4 gig's of memory.
