I didn't watch it - kinda lost interest in the wake of the whole New Caprica ordeal (and the move to Sunday night) - but I've run across more than one thread about it on the various forums I read. A lot of folks out there are not particularly fond of Starbuck. Given recent developments, can't say I'm too surprised.

well there are few possibilities:
1. Starbuck went section 8 and killed herself
2. Starbuck is the "chosen one" destined to discover what exists between life and death.
3. Starbuck is a cylon, perhaps one of the final five, who has been recalled to the homeworld.
In any one of these cases, Starbuck has to contend with the fact that she abandoned her mother in her final days. Her mother apparently was abusive and she obviously traumatized Starbuck at a young age.

I want to believe number 1 personally grifter but I do believe she is a cylon and one of the final five and she has been recalled like you said Grif.

Just got to watch the episode last night. I hope this is a bad dream and she will wake up and not be gone.
However, when I went to the BSG conference at Comic Con Intl 2006 they did mention that someone "big" is going to die, so maybe this was it?
Remember, there is a period of time where Starbuck was captured by the cylons on Caprica, maybe that is/was a clone of her and not the real Starbuck?

Well with her being special and all that crap, Ie she sees the rings and painted them, and now this episode again shows her as something special, I honestly am betting we will see her again.
Now in what form is the question. People have speculated she is one of the final 5, or she may just be a generic cylon we an't seen yet.
but still that episode was needless to say screwed up.

Remember when the discontinued model was in the temple and she saw the final five, and the last one they focused on was a very very blond person, I think that was starbuck, but this all could be a dream she is having. Hell what if all this is a dream for her and she goes back six years relives that for a minute then fast forwards back to the day the cylons came back. In a nutshell she is some sort of stick jockey that knows some future events.
Of course in my honest opinion.

I just don't get it, why kill off one of the more popular characters, and/or names in the BSG series? When I think of BSG, I think of Starbuck and Apollo.
If this is the way they are writing her off the show, then I think this was a bad bad decision. They could have had her go through some kind of time portal, wormhole or something, then they could justify her not being around, and still have a possibility of coming back to the show. I wonder what the reasons were for writing her off? She didn't like the role? Does she want to move onto onther roles?
I'm bummed that she is gone. If I was in Adama's shoes, I would probably wreck my boat too.
