This Mitsubishi is looking nicely restored.

Never to be ranked among the sturdiest planes in history, Japan's long-range fighter the Mitsubishi Zero was built purely for speed and maneuverability. Its brittle aluminum body was very light and could dip and dive better than any other plane during World War II. The Zero would become the cornerstone of Japan's suicide "kamikaze" squadrons.

the fun part is I see these lits, on Tv, on the net and when it comes to war planes, the list always ends with American aircraft over everything else. and to top it off not American aircraft I would use to top off a list anyway. also note you almost never see any Russian WW2 aircraft, or there later model aircraft on that list either as some of there newest toys are easialy as maneuverable as the f22, just no stealth. I always feal these lists are biased per the country that came up with it, at least when it comse to th top locations on the lists.

OK what was that list there, whoever wrote that didn't even look at the tempest, P-38, Corsair (I know but you got to love the black sheep LoL), the hawker Hurricane, and the FW-190 Wolfe (now that's a plane's plane).

what do slot backs have to do with warplanes?

Like I said that was off the top of my head and my main criteria was did in some way change the face of air combat? I think I picked 10 that did that to an extent

se5a was not anything special, it was arguabley the best plane in 1918, but just bigger engine and such, nothing extra. the Fokker if I remember right was the first to have the timing thing to shoot through the prop.

A few years ago, "Wings" tried to do a top ten of all time and even they conceded that thier finalized list was not perfect because they had to cut something. Many would've put the F-14 in for example for its BVR and unusual folding wing design, but some would argue that would not be enough and argue F-5 Tiger is an absolute must have for some reason. shrug. Well, there will always be different opinions about which planes belong on the list. I'll consider what should go on my list. For starters, I'd say the F-14 belongs and Vought F8U Crusader

Yes, the "Eindecker". First they just had metal plates to deflect the bullets, then they made the "interrupter gear."

I believe the A-10 Warthog ( aka A-10 Thunderbolt ) should be on the list.

The 'Warthog' is exceptionally hardy, to the point that it could be considered an airborne tank. Its strong airframe can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high-explosive projectiles up to 23 mm. The aircraft has triple redundancy in its flight systems, with mechanical systems to back up double-redundant hydraulic systems which permits pilots to fly and land when hydraulic power is lost. The aircraft is designed to fly with one engine and half a wing torn off.

The A-10 was shown when USAF Captain Kim Campbell, flying a ground support mission over Baghdad during the 2003 invasion of Iraq suffered extensive flak damage to her A-10. The hit damaged one of the A-10's two engines and destroyed its hydraulic system, disabling the plane's stabilizer and flight controls. Despite this, the pilot managed to fly it for an hour and landed it safely at the air base in manual reversion mode.



The A-10 Warthog is a fighter/bomber that is used by NATO and can also can hold a wide
assortment of weapons, up to 16,000 pounds of them on the wings!

Looking at people's varied list then we need a speciality categories and otwo categories in paticular would be multi-role and dual role aircraft (to me dual role means an aircraft that is designated multiple roles but can only do one role effectively versus multi-role where an aircraft excels at all roles that it has been designated). I noticed no one thru in any Israelie aircraft so I will.

With what we started here we could actually write a book on the subject detailing each category and every aircraft in that category then going into ellaborate detail about each aircraft giving the aircrafts history and such.
