We’ll ride on The Grove Line.
Lots of BBQ’s and fire works in my area.
I might as well join in for Cinco de Mayo. =)

We're in the pipe , five by five.
It’s been a big thing here in Southern California for several years now. It gives the Mexican population something to celebrate , and since most of Southern California is occupied with Mexicans and American Mexicans I’ll see a lots of VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!! Every year. Lots of illegal fireworks in my area along with happy happy Mexicans celebrating their independence.

You mean the Independence of Mexico right? If so, they're celebrating the independence of a country that they ran away from and are now hiding in a country where, if found, they supposedly have no rights and are forced back to the country where they supposedly have rights. Is this correct? I have no idea what Cinco De Mayo is all about; however, if my assessment is correct, doesn't this strike you as a bit odd?
you guys should actually GO to Mexico and see how the general population lives. then, with consideration of the culture and technology that is not available to most, reflect upon the desire to go to another country even if illegally...
both of you smack a bit of stereotyping, and stereotyping leads to racism.
now, this does not mean that i support illegals in the country, and even my wife who is Mexican does not support it and thinks they are silly to expect things when they come here...but some empathy is what Americans are all about - no? for instance those of us willing to give our lives so others, even those who despise us warmongers ;), can live in freedom.
now, to educate you a bit Cinco de Mayo is not about Mexican Independance Day. It is the celebration of a battle. It was a battle in which an imperialistic French army had is ass handed to it... go read a short article about it, and why Americans should honor and be just as proud of Cinco de Mayo...

Steel has a point. And yes I agree with him, in that I dont have anything against Mexicans as a people or culture. What i have a problem with is when they come over here illegally, demand all the services and full rights that I as a US citizen have and get pissed when I dont agree with them. Dont expect me to have much empathy for you or your cause if you first mock the laws of my country, say they dont matter and that I owe you respect because of it.
I'm not built that way. I would support a reasonable path to citizenship, but no giving away the farm. After such path is layed out and law, then those outside the path or those who refuse to walk it......get booted back to where ever they came from forthwith....
Being as I grew up in California, in the San Joaquin valley no less, I actually knew what Cinco De Mayo was about....but is kicking the hell out the French really a reason to have a holiday?
hat last part was a joke btw

Yes, it's definately a reason to have a holiday...a hundred times yes....in fact, beating the French actually led to an insulting gesture used in Britain (don't think it's made it's way to the US). The two finger salute (imagine V for victory, but the hand faced the other way round) developed from English Longbowmen, who if caught by the French would have their index and middle fingers cut off, so they couldn't draw a bowstring. This gesture of showing those two fingers was kinda of 'Screw you, i've still got my fingers' type of thing.

i think we had this whole mexican thread at one time or other hehe. From what little ive seen of the mexican culture, even though in some ways its different and strange, since im not mexican... but i respect and enjoy the differences alot. my wife, who is half, tends to try to get me to go to celerbrations around the area. and i take her to the scaninavian festivals in junction city. its a hoot, and we learn alot about each other and just things in general. imigration is great. all the cultures that in their own way made this country great. and at the very least. an interesting and exciting place to live. as to the illegal thing, yes i do believe they should be termed ILLEGAL. becuse they broke laws to be here. i do not in any way blame them however. ive heard the stories. seen the pictures. a gal i dated who happened to be a mexican nationalist told me how things where, even among those who had some money.
all in all, those who come here to live, and to contribute to this country i say welcome. but those who come here just to take with no intent on being apart of this place you came to live a better life, i dont know, i have little sympathy. not becuse im cold hearted, but becuse i believe if you wish to be a part of something great then you do it, dont abuse it.
