Debi and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean tonight. What a GREAT GREAT movie! THE Best movie I have seen this year, non-stop action, humorous, great animations(skeletons were great), a good storyline, and IMO, worth every penney. If you have ever been to Disneyland or Disneyworld and have been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, you will see small clips in the movie that are from the ride. Even if you have never been to Disneyland or Disney World, go see the movie, you will surely still like it.
Here is a small description of the movie:
Aboard the Black Pearl, infamous pirate Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) attacks the city of Port Royal and kidnaps a governor's daughter, Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). Barbossa then sets sail with his hostage toward a secret hideaway, hoping to lift an ancient curse by sacrificing her and returning a once-plundered treasure. Elizabeth's childhood friend Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) meets an eccentric seaman, Jack Sparrow, who reveals that the Black Pearl was formerly his ship, until Barbossa committed mutiny. Together, they assemble a ragtag crew and commandeer a British vessel, hoping to chase down and free both Elizabeth and Sparrow's Pearl. Following after them is the British military, led by Elizabeth's would-be fiancé, Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport).

Gotta disagree guys:
1. Liked the music
2. Liked the special effects
3. Disliked the political correctness:
a. glorifying pirates as honorable (with a code. hahahaha. yeah right)
b. Jack Sparrow - a pirate with a lisp, with effeminate speech and walk - yeah, he would have lasted back in the 1700's
c. the 19 year old white girl who is captured by the pirates and who remains let's say, sexually inactive while on their ship. not to mention participates in combat
d. oh yeah; the young black girl among the recruits for the second ship to go after the pirates. (weren't they slaves back then?) gay Jack appears afraid of her, and several others are also afraid of her. and she remains sexually inactive too.
4. Women were considered bad luck on ships back then and were usually not allowed on warships and combat ships - oops. i forgot - Clinton changed all that in the 90's.
5. endless boring fights with skeletons.
Sorry, i know i am taking this movie way too seriously. But I rate it a C at best. Pirates were scumbags and criminals who raped and pillaged and stole everything of value. Why is this movie trying to portray them in a better light? I know, they were misunderstood and were products of a disadvantaged youth.
And another thing. As CNO of WOF and a relatively good knowledge of Naval gunnery - how in the world do they cycle their cannons so fast. It seems that the pirate's cannons could cycle much faster than the typical twice per minute that was possible back then. And how cannons with little or no elevation could destroy a fortress filled with british soldiers that was located several hundred feet HIGHER than they were while these trained british soldiers could not hit the pirate ship below them at all?
i know, shut up and enjoy the movie. why i would expect realism from hollywood in a combat movie baffles me too.

Movie
<SARCASM ON>
Now everything makes sense. How in the heck can skeletons walk on the bottom of the ocean and breath underwater? And what about that drop the daughter took from the fort wall? Like she would really survive that drop. What about that pirate that kept taking his eye out, how does he do that? That's gotta be fake!
<SARCASM OFF>
Hehe. Seriously though, sorry you didn't like the movie Madrus. I took the movie for what it was, a fictional, DISNEY Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, made for the big screen. Most of the movie was not based on actual pirates or their activities, it was based on the ride at Disneyland.

For the character Gay Jack Sparrow Johnny boy played it well and to the "T"! I found the movie funny and a bit long. I've seen about three or four movies in the past month and maybe its me but I think hollywood is giving us our money worth in the length of the movie mind you I didn't say quality. Right now a non-matinee movie cost $9.25 here, a far cry from the five dollars I moaned and groaned about when I was younger.
