Hey Softball -- Baseball
So your Padres play against the Rockies today to determine the NL Wild Card winner. You a bit nervous? LOL
I have learned from experience that a modicum of snuff can be most efficacious - Baron Munchausen
Nervous, no. Dissapointed, yes. They should have clinched it on Saturday, when they had 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th in Milwaukee with a 2 and 2 count on Tony Gwynn Jr., and Trevor Hoffman blows the save. Doh!
The Padres hitting has been crappy all year, so if they lose this one game playoff I will not be surprised. Their pitching has saved their collective asses, good thing Jake Peavy is pitching tonight.
The Rockies have won their last 12 of 13 games or something like that; they are the hot ticket for sure. The Rockies remind me of the 2003 Florida Marlins or the 2004 Boston Red Sox.
Gotta keep the Faith. Go Padres!

So okay, I give up, why did you go to DC.. Business or pleasure?
I watched the Dodgers go down swinging. Shame… They started going down hill ever since Jason Schmidt threw out his shoulder. It’s still a new team so it going to take time to it get together.
It was an NFL underdogs game last weekend. Dan Diego lost to Kansas City? And Arizona comes out to best Pittsburg . Un- believable. Roethlisberger had under a minute to even the score in the 4th., that should have been plenty of time for him and the Steelers. Ha ha … The good thing about NFL last weekend was that they ( local TV Channels ) kept switching NFL football games from one game to another when all was said an done on the games advertised. Like when Marc Bulger of the St. Louis Rams threw an interception to the end zone in the 4th. It was over... So they switched to another game that was more competitive. nice.
Guinness beer taste nasty. I don’t know how colonel Jack O'Neill drank that stuff. I guess it’s an acquired taste. I finally had some Rolling Rock when my nephew came up from San Diego with a 12 pack a few weeks ago. No too bad.

We were robbed! Holiday never touched home plate. GRRR!!
Even though my Padres lost, it was a great game. I tip my hat to the Rockies, they won the game off the best closer of all time. Now who do I root for? Hmmm, I usually root for the underdog, so I guess I'll root for the Rockies or the Cubs.
The Rockies earned it, they deserve the playoff spot.

Sorry Softball, it was a great game, and I think he got the plate....his hand was under the cleat of the catcher...at least it looked that way to me.
Falker, neither. I was there to bury my Grandmother in my Granddad's plot at Arlington National Cemetery where he has waited for her since '75. It was a good ceremony, and the Air Force Honor Guard did a great job. It was emotional. Marine One actually diverted around us as we were at the grave site (no idea if the President was on board). That evening I spent with Family and friends at my Dads Cousin's house near Mt. Vernon. We took his boat out and spent an hour or so on the Potomac looking up at Mt. Vernon. I didnt know this until that night, My dads cousin's office was at the time on the outer ring of the Pentagon, and the airplane that hit it took the end of his office out. He had a picture of it, and when he said thats my office, I was like damn. He was not there that morning as he was meeting with contractors to build his dock behind his house. He now works at a intel think tank in DC.
I did get to play tourist for a day and a half and walked from the capital building all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial. I spent about 2 hours in the Air and Space Muesiem. That was impressive. I kept looking in those Gemini and Apollo capsules and thinking....no way in hell. I got some good pics here and there, but a lot of the displays in one area were going thru restoration or something cuz they were closed off.
I flew home on Sunday. Both times I had layovers in Memphis. I swear you dont even make it half way up the jetway when it hits you. I am talking about the smell. The smell of sweet....sweet BBQ. Every concourse has a Bob Neeley's Interstate BBQ in it, and the one in ours was right across from this big display of the "Memphis Belle" at gate....yep Gate B17...lol...it was cool. Oh and the BBQ was stellar, $6.50 for a giant pulled pork sandwich....yum. This made up for the girl on the flight sitting next to me from DC to Memphis who as we were on final and the plane is all over the place (really bad turbulence) hands me here baby and then proceeds to toss her cookies into a bag. She was sweet and embarrassed but it was ok...it happens.
Anyway, thats why I was in DC.

Roger that, My condolences on your loss bro... Sounds like a mesmerizing weekend... ok lmao , it never happened to me ... that would be like a , whelp…uh….ok…."eyes roll" -- stellar BBQ ... Nicely put. I'll haft to order me some of that Neely's BBQ Sauce and check it out. I usually use Sweet Baby Ray’s or Bull's Eye
Say I didn't mean to step on the thread here. But San Diego Bites! Well I just never cared for the Base Ball team because it seems to me they always play harder when LA is up to bat ( aka Brooklyn Dodgers ) I'm not too into the Dodgers , but It gives me something to talk about with my dad on occasion. I was also happy to see the Chargers get beat up last weekend. Hah! They knocked Pittsburgh out of the playoffs a few years ago and ... "Well in fact " , I just never liked the San Diego Chargers. lol .. Their too close for comfort.
Next time Pittsburgh beats San Diego , I going to put up some bragging rights =)

erm....noPanzerMeyer wrote:LOL!! You mean baseball isn't a popular sport in the UK?Mooseman wrote:reading this thread is like trying to read Japanese for me
In terms of popularity, i'd say the ranking are something like Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, Golf, Snooker, Darts, American Football, Basketball, Icehockey, Baseball.
The reason i say that is afaik Baseball is the only one without any remotely large scale organised league in the UK.
