I remember a while back someone was saying how they got hammered buying a HDMI cable for $100. I almost made the same mistake (ok I did as I needed a cable at 9:30 PM on Sat night as I was hooking up my system) but here is a link for high quality cables without the box store or Monster Cable prices.....this recommendation comes from the guys putting in my home security system (and they also do high end palace...er...home theater systems)

also look at newegg they had some good prices. I bought a DVI cable at microcenter for 35$, setting up kvm setup (1 monitor keyboard and mouse for 2 pc's). Get home check newegg 10$ will get me one, same with the usb cables I never bought those as they wanted 30$ for 2 of them, newegg has them for 3$ range. Going to be returning the DVI cable and getitng newegg to send thing over.
But ya stores use cables as a huge cash crop, that printer was dirt cheep sale, but the usb cable that you need to buy which relay costs 2$ was 15$ on the shelf idea.

I just bought two hdmi cables from newegg last week for $7 each. The first pair I bought at that price have worked great. Highly recommend you don't spend more than $10 for a "short" hdmi cable. I suppose if you need something in a longer length or some other custom work, you could end up paying.

one of the reasons I posted that link...20 foot HDMI for 26 bucks....just saying
I needed a 10 foot cable but could only find a 8 footer....and because I was in the middle of hooking stuff up I ended up paying for it....oh well
my security installer hooked me up with these cool modular in wall speaker wire taps...keeps me from drilling holes in my wood floors.
