I'm going to wait it out and see what the initial reviews and bug reports are like before I buy.

ya, im already thinking buying it on steam might be a bad idea...

all I want is for them to abandon it again like they did arma. probably won't be so lucky as to be able to break it out of steam a second time and patch it up with the standard patches; bastards. I hate BIS.

I hope to hell the DVD version doesn't go through Steam. I do not like the fact that you cannot decide what directory to install the games to that are installed with Steam.

I will only buy it on steam IF it's ONLY available through steam; it's easy enough to find the games under the steam folder, no big deal to me. What happened with ArmA though is that BIS released it via Steam. Then they abandoned it. The highest you can patch the game through steam is 1.08. It's only by luck that the 1.14 international patch can overwrite it and you can go on from there as though it's not a steam game. I hate BIS more than I hate ArmA. They're assholes.

There in lies the problem... none. I went off on a rampage looking for a viable replacement and I couldn't suggest one... I still think that the old thost recon/ raven shield days had a lot more fun to offer in terms of fun and relaxation.

Ok, what about the hard drive space? What if I installed Steam on a drive that has less than 10 GB left on it? That leaves the ability to install one, maybe two games. That's another problem I have with installing games through Steam. I like to store all of my games on a specific partition. Unfortunately I have Steam on my C drive which has less than 10GB left. *sigh*

Looks like there is a simple enough work around. Pain in the ass, but at least it's an option

another option if you have xp or newer might be to convert your disks from basic to dynamic and you can mount it under a folder (for instance c:\program files\steam\steamapps); I am not sure if you can also mount it with a drive letter, although I would assume so based on the fact that you can mount the same drive with multiple drive letters. Then you could say install your games to d:\ and any of your steam games when dropped in the steamapps folder would actually land on your D drive too... also a pain in the ass, but also another possible option

Thanks Hudson, looks simple enough.

If you're low on space on the drive you have Steam installed, you can move the Steam folder to a different location. Here's an example of how to move the Steam installation between two hard drives:

Log out and exit Steam
Navigate to the folder where Steam is installed (by default: C:\Program Files\Steam\)
Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe
Cut and paste your Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\Games\Steam\
Launch Steam
Steam will briefly update and then you will be ready to play
All future game content will be downloaded to the new folder D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\

Funny. I did a search for "Armed Assault" on Gamestop's website and it turned up with no hits!

Here it is. Apparently you have to search under "ArmA II" in order to find it.
