Buffalo 1......Horse Zero
I was on my way to have some guns worked on tonight out in Butler County, and I hit a Horse that was standing in the middle of the road at 60 mph. My new truck is dead, and the horse didnt make it either but I dont have a scratch on me.

Reminds me of when my brother said "I almost hit a deer on a motorcycle."Buffalo Six wrote:a Horse that was standing in the middle of the road at 60 mph
Also - more proof that guns are dangerous!
Heh, glad you're okay. How does insurance figure into a case like this? Is the horse's owner responsible?

Dunno yet, other than I'm fully covered. USAA is pretty good at taking care of you when this happens.
Re: Buffalo 1......Horse Zero

Re: Buffalo 1......Horse Zero
well the truck did its job, but I am a bit concerned that the air bags didnt go off
Re: Buffalo 1......Horse Zero
guess your replaced the xtera (I think that's what it was). But DAM looks simile to people I know who have hot a Moose. Problem is that in some of those casess I know the moose got up and left the scene which is a real annoyance. totalled f150 and moose leaves without insurance.
Re: Buffalo 1......Horse Zero
Aren't the air bag sensors in the front bumper? It looks like most of the damage is above the bumper and did not exert enough force the set off the air bags sensors? Just a thought, but yea, the air bags should have gone off.Buffalo Six wrote:well the truck did its job, but I am a bit concerned that the air bags didnt go off

look at the pictures again. the right side of the picture (trucks left) upi can see a decent kink in the bumper which should have been enough to kick sensor in.

Schuhhhhhhh now, I don't want people to know that I had a Dodge 1500 for 12 years. Now that's just crazy. Next thing I'll know you will be telling everyone that I always play my games in the buff and that I like the feel of leather on my balls. Hmm perhaps that was a little TMI.Softball wrote:That's pretty funny coming from someone who owned a Dodge. Lol!Ghost wrote:I see what the problem is now with daylignt on the truck. It's a Dodge! Damn dude, sorry to hear about the truck and horse. Glad to hear no people were hurt though. I wouldn't be concerned that the airbags didn't go off; it takes a lot. When I was younger and even more stupid than I am now I wrecked my car and was similarly surprised that they did not go off; turns out A.) in my case it was not a head on collision (with the guard rail) so that head a lot to do with it and B) I did not crumple the front end nearly enough to set off the air bag.
You're right too about USAA being really good; we have found them to be almost completely no hassle about insurance; my wife was on an underway when they stopped in New York and took off her engagement ring, because she didn't want to wear it around the city, and be a target. I guess she put it in her pocket, and she called me up sobbing her brains out when she got back to the ship and realized she lost it and then called USAA; they replaced what is probably our single most valuable possession (the bank owns more of our house than we do at this point so I don't count that) with virtually no questions asked. The _only_ thing they made my wife do is call the police to see if anyone turned it in (in NYC, ha!)
I would be very surprised if they did not take care of you right.

Re: Buffalo 1......Horse Zero
Well as of Weds. the body shop who is doing the estimate is at $18K damage and they havent looked at the engine or trans. He is pretty sure the Trans case is cracked as its leaking like a sieve, so $20K plus is in the ballpark. Thats about 50% of the sticker price. I really hope they total it, because how the hell would you be able to sell or trade it with a carfax like that?
I also contacted Dodge thru customer service, firstly to have someone thank the engineers who designed my truck, and secondly to ask why the airbags didnt go off. They are actually sending an investigator out to take a look at whats left of the truck. Maybe something will come of that
