Since I clearly don't pay attention, the "red diamond" setting is actually in the in-game options menu labeled "Target Marker" ... you should un-check it for a more realistic experience.

I noticed that in the options, but considered it may be for something else because you guys were messing with config stuff to find an answer. I'll go switch that off myself.
