funeral detail...

Post by Hammer »

This Saturday was my friends Memorial Service. I was able to participate in the military funeral detail (since he serve), and even able to present the flag to Beth (his wife). The funeral detail was quite nice, the volunteers were excellent. Yes, the folks that perform funeral details are volunteers for the most part. Presenting the flag was one of the most difficult things I have ever done, I had to take a couple of deep breaths before I could even talk once I was in front of Beth. I am not sure if I mucked up what I was supposed to say or not, but I know I got the first part right, "On behalf of the President of the United States and a Grateful Nation, I present this flag..." after that I do not remember what the hell I said. Everyone said I did an awesome job, but I think they were just being nice. I was certainly honored to be able to participate in this ceremony, as it is an extremely important thing we do for those that have served and show the loved ones left behind that their loved one's service was not in fact in vain nor forgotten.

Pics of me in my Class A's afterward:
