Let's go Red Sox **clap** **clap**
Finally, my team has broken the curse. I've been a true blue Sox fan since 1978 and I cherished every minute of that post-game ceremony last night!
Red Sox
Yea, I tip my hat to the Red Sox.
My favorite moment in the playoffs was when the Red Sox were in Yankee Stadium for Game 7 (Or was it Game 6?) and Pedro was pitching as a reliever, and the Yankees fans were chanting (Similar to the chant Let's go Red Sox) ....."Who's your Daddy, clap clap clap clap clap. Who's your Daddy, clap clap clap clap clap." I was LMAO!!
Boston really beat the odds to get to the World Series, and to win the whole thing is the icing on the cake. They had such great team chemistry this season, I think that's what put them over the top. How big was getting Russ Ortiz for the Sox? IMO, without him they go nowhere. I'm not so sure Manny Ramirez deserved the MVP award, that guy sure was lazy on some of the plays he made in the outfield. If anyone should get the MVP for the World Series, it should be the Boston pitchers. They kept the Cardinals out of the game, thus kept their bats quiet.
Overall, it's great the Boston won the World Series, but the World Series as a whole, was B O R I N G ! ! ! The NLCS and ALCS were MUCH more exciting to watch. I like games that put you on the edge of your seat, not knowing who is going to win until that last out of the game. The Boston vs St.Louis World Series was so lopsided (On Boston's side), that it was a real bore to watch. The St.Louis team that played in the World Series was not the same team that played all year (They had the Best record in all of Baseball). I think they were still in shock to be there and never woke up.
Congrats to the Bo Sox, they deserved the win in every way.

Have to say I find it real funny when they refer to it as the "World Series" - is that, perhaps, because they broadcast it worldwide?
Anyway, the Stanley Cup was very much 'on the edge of your seat' stuff this season. My home team managed to reach the finals against the odds too, but somehow threw it away when it was "in the bag" so to speak - but that's the great attraction of hockey, it's NEVER in the bag until the buzzer goes. And this season? I wish they would get their house in order so we can see some hockey!

nope. because it represents the best professional baseball teams in the World for over 100 years. and that was before television so it can't be because they broadcast it world wide.

The point being made is that the competition is not representative of the best from around the world. Only teams from North America take part, because it is the only continent playing at that level. Sure there are Mexicans and others who play regularly within that league but at what overall representative percentage. Japan have an upandcoming system, and they DO have some very fine players as do the Koreans and so on. But again, they do not partake in the so-called "World Series" as a national team.
Take for example the Football (soccer) World Cup - now that is truely representative of the best from around the World playing at the highest level, although not quite the highest standard. Simply because although they all know one another, they do not play together regularly. So, IMHO, any top level league team could give their own national squad a good run for their money. The epitomy of ice hockey is the NHL - it's where all the big money is, the quantity of non-Americans is of relative low percentage within the NHL, so one would assume then that mostly the game is dominated by the North Americans in a big way. Not quite the case though, the Europeans are a very good match for the N. American teams. Not only that, but take a good look at all the teams who are making it big right now in the NHL; in each case there is at least one if not several European players within that team playing a major role in their achievements.
I am not staking claim here for any Brits; but the Czechs, Fins and Swedes cannot be taken lightly by anyone, even the Wayne Gretzkys of the NHL.
Again, back to the point - calling it the World Series is all very grand but not a truely representative description of the tournament or the achievement of the team who emerges the eventual victor.

Well America invented baseball. Normally I'm very tolerant and I advocate equality of among nations, peace, and tranquility. But I'm Red Sox fan and I've been one since I saw Bill Buckner let the ball run between his legs in 86. I was twelve. Finally, the curse has been lifted and Red Sox fans everywhere can breath and sigh of relief, hold their head high, and be proud. As for the inaccuracy of the term, you're right. It's not a truly world wide representation, but then when the title was coined, America was the only country playing the game really. So, it's more tradition than anything else. But, to be honest, I don't care about the rest of the world right now, and I don't care that the rest of the world may feel the title isn't accurate. As far as I'm concerned, the Boston Red Sox are the WORLD CHAMPS. The best of the best....at least, until next year. I grew up and live in Massachusetts, most of my family lives in Boston or just south of it. This is a very exciting time for us.
actually it is all a commercial venture, and as such i would say they get to call it what they want.
does the summer olympics not have baseball where all nations can participate, with no professional players??? same as hockey for the winter olympics? there is some of the best hockey i have ever seen...
just as in the world cup - some of the best soccer i have ever seen...

Didn't you notice that this year at the Olympics - all those "non-professsional" athletes and sportsmen. Don't know how it works with the hockey world cup - but I can say they were most defintiely being paid big bucks in the NHL most of them! Or was I seeing things?!
As far as the soccer world cup, yes it is someof the best you have seen - but if you get the chance, go look at the spanish football league games or really any others even say japan or Korea - they seem to showmore flare and style when playing in the leagues with their team-mates than they do in a national squad environment.
