There's isn't ANY MP in HL2.
What it has is Counter Strike on the new Source engine. They made the decision to concentrate on SP and forget MP, and I suppose they made a good choice as SP is excellent.
The new CS, however, has lots of cheating issues and no timeline on when fixes will be made. Many people think it's an afterthought that Valve shouldn't have released yet.

Well, CS:S has been out for more than a month and they've released several patches so far.
One thing to look for is what the mod community puts out.
One thing's for nearly certain - there won't be any co-op for it. It will all be Team vs. Team at best probably.

Well, Sven may have something to say about that!
I never played it (since I only got the game last summer), but the Sven Co-op mod for the original HL apparently worked quite well.
Now not every level in HL2 will be worth playing coop (what's the point if you don't have any weapons??:)), but I'm sure there are some that will be great fun. Kinda like the coop mod for AvP2--when it worked with a level it was great, but not every level worked.
Too bad they don't seem to be able to get Far Cry's coop mod working properly. Maybe if we all had high-end 64-bit CPUs...
