Computer HELP!

Post by Kamikazi »

I've just installed a new motherboard and processor in my old 233MhZ P1 computer. Its an American Megatrends AMIBIOS with an AMD/K6 450MhZ processor. However, when starting the computer, I get a "Primary HDD error" and a "Secondary HDD error". I called my dad, and he says its probably a BIOS I/O error with the harddrive. After giving me those two errors, it recognizes my sound card, then asks for a boot disk like it can't read the hard drive. Any help please?

What Brian said ...

as to the HDD cable ... make sure the red-wire is lined up with Pin-1 on the mobo connector ... unless the socket is keyed, this can be easy to flip/flop.

Hard Drive

What size HD is it and how old is it? The newer HDs will not work on an older chipset MB, unless:

1) You have a BIOS update that supports newer/larger HDs.

or

2) You use a ATA/100 PCI Controller card (About $30)

I have a K6-2 400Mhz at work and I had to use a Promise ATA/100 PCI controller card to get my (2) 60G HDs to work properly.

Other than that, check your HD jumper settings and cable connections.

Good luck.
