Free Tribes 1 & 2

Post by Falker »

Yes , in case you already haven’t heard…..

April 09, 2004 - The original Starsiege: Tribes and its follow-up, Tribes 2, are now beloved classics of multiplayer gaming. With these titles, Sierra helped define what online PC gaming meant, and the rewarding team tactics of both games remain exemplars of game design to this day.

Now, with Tribes: Vengeance set to hit stores late this year, Vivendi is stirring up Tribes fever again by offering the original two titles free. Yes, it's true. They may be chestnuts, but they're still worth plenty in gaming fun, and this is a spiffy deal indeed.

Where to find them? The June issue of Computer Gaming World will feature them on a pack-in DVD when it hits newsstands May 4. But you'll also have the option of downloading the games from our very own FilePlanet at the same time. The choice is yours -- though of course, we secretly think FilePlanet makes you cooler.

So if you've remained Tribes-less this long, here's your chance at redemption.

I found this at IGN .com while looking for something new .

We sure had allot of fun playing Tribes 1 . Remember .... Image

Man , that was a lot of fun waiting for Tinker to hop over to our side and start tearing up the place hehe. I made sure I was on the opposite team so I could have a decent perimeter package set up for his arrival , with a lasers and warning detectors . That was a blast. :)

I bought Tribes 2 a few years ago for $50 when it first came out. It was just before I went up north. At the time I didn’t have a decent computer to run the graphics package it had to offer so when I dropped I could only watch the other guys kick butt while I moseyed around praying for faster game play. I lost my security code and password for it some where along the line and never really played the game. I saw Punch was always playing it tho. I could only envy him at the time as I saw his name in Kali as , … (( “ Punch is away “ Playing Tribes 2 WooHoo ! )) I was like , Aw man .. Sniff Sniff...... Image.....

Yeah Punch was always a quick learner when it came to playing these type of games.

I’m also hoping Tribes Vengeance will be cool as well when it comes out. But I may be in the same boat as I was before tho when it comes to playing todays games. And If that’s the case then That Cuts It ! I’ll have to go out and get me a Black Hawk Computer loaded with plenty of DDR Ram ! Then maybe I'll be able to keep up with you guys :rockin:

Speaking of Tribes 2 - here is a related mod:

http://www.mechina.com/mod/

Anyone ever tried this? I am thinking free game, mecha mod, ELH reunion? Not sure if it would be worth all that, but maybe a consideration...

i still have to look into all this. a reunion would be great. i think i lost lot of the passion i had for mw4 mercs awhile ago. ive tried playing a few times now that it works and its ok. but the excitment isnt there. i know that ive been one of those dont pay to play type of ppl and will probably get beat on considering i was so against it for so long and now doing it lol. but i just simply found that excitment with this game so far. on the other hand.. if T2 was a blast too, and we could get a group togather i might let the planetside subscription slip and save myself 13 bucks a month :P

well, from what i was able to read the free tribes 2 will be out in may sometime in mags and on fileplanet. so we will have to probably wait till then to check it out. im currious about the game, ive heard bron talk about it quite a bit. in fact we might be able to drag the ol General into a game or two if enough of us get it and play it hehe.

Thanks for the Mech Mod Link. I’ve heard of this Mod before when Punch was bragging about it one night on Kali. Sorry I don’t know much more about than that it tho. I still never really played Tribes 2 , but I’m sure I will if I can have a familiar wing man or two covering my six.

Pennywise was the best Tribes Player that I can recall. That guy would smoke us any time any day , all at once.

tribes 2 itself is fun if you get the right mix of folks - and us being tactical mided and all...

i could probably coax some of the wings-of-fury folks into playing as well and we could prolly have some good games.

i would still like to know about that mecha mod...and if it is good too. looks like they put a decent amount of thought into it.

if you are trying to get a cd key from Gamespy for the free download of tribes2 and they have it disabled (due to 'volume'), here is the link to the cd key generation front end... You can still get a cd key. I don't know if there will be a problem with these keys (i.e. they just have a huge list and rotate back to the top again after going through the list, but it will get you going).

http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/tribes2_cgw/

Remember each individual needs their own cd key to play online.

I purchased the Computer Gaming World magazine last week BH. The Magazine with the Free DVD of Tribes 2. It was kind of a hassle to get the CD Key code but I finally got it.

Amazingly it’s allot like Tribes 1 : ) There’s some cool things to it tho like cool graphics and a few new Flag games. I have been trying out the Flag game called capture and hold. Where you capture Flag bases from across the map and hold them secure while fending off the other side from touching the flag at the base your defending. Once your team gets all 6 bases in the green,.. the game is over. But it’s not that easy. : )
