HmmVee Website - NOT!

Post by KODIAK »

Having heard there was a new HumVee (as we refer to it), aparently somewhat smaller than the original H1 & civilianised H2, I thought I might go have a look, see how viable a vehicle it could be as an alternative to an MPV style car. Although not really party of the culture over here, being military I am quite partial to a 4x4 type vehicle. I always liked the look of the Hummer, and now that there was talk of a 'smaller' version being made available, I thought maybe it would of comparable size to a Colorado Landcruiser or something. So, I type in 'Hummer H2' for a google search, and found this website:

Jeez! And you guys think it's unfriendly over at FreeFalcon?!  Anyway, be warned! This forum is absolutely packed with profanity - but the entertainment value if you have nothing better to do than read posts, is second to none once you get into it!

Haha, Hummer bashers...love it. If I could afford it, I would have one in a heartbeat. However, bigger isn't always better, check out this video link I found on that site, lol. The poor Hummer broke, hahahaha.

I'll have a look when I get back home, the f-i-l's system doesn't have anything to play the wmv installed, and I'm not d/l'ing any shit on his comp. It would just be another way for him to complain at me.

While the ongoing "debate" over on this FUH site is that of four year olds, I have to agree with the notion that Hummer's are a big waste of time and money. I don't know...seems like too much emphasis on style, which I could care less about. I don't think the street versions are nearly as tough or functional as their military counterparts no? Maybe I'm wrong. To be honest, I really haven't bothered looking into it since they are way too expensive and not really my taste. In any case, I don't like the way they look, they don't look like they have a lot of cargo space...what the hell does a civi like me need something like that anyway? I'll stick with my forester.

Well, there you have it. That's why they have street versions - to please the SUV style crowd, you know, all these mamby-pamby types who drive them around the cities and wouldn't know what off-road was, if they fell into the Grand Canyon! If you're intent is off-road with these things the only choice is the H1. They're just like landrovers with a wider wheelbase to me. I enjoyed driving around in them when in Bos, we had a small US contingent at our location, and if one of them was going on a job but no-one else was available they'd come around and ask if anyone wanted to help out seeing as you were not allowed to go anywhere out of base alone. I used to go, if they were willing to get my name signed-up on the driver's chit. That was easy, as a bribe, I simply mentioned that the driver was responsible for preparing/last parading the vehicle at the end of the run/journey. That meant they wouldn't need to do anything exept chill-out after the journey and I had to prep the wagon - you could see the cogs turning as they worked it out. Easy!!
