just like in the air force, that is competitive. depending upon how well you do in training decides whether you get to pick at all or not...

Ah yes, the "Barrett" as we simply refer to it over here. Never touched one until '98 myself - we were down Gorni Vakuf with our Engineers experts learning more in-depth stuff about not only AP, AT mine systems being used but the recent discoveries of a variety of booby trapped set-ups they'd been finding. Some of it was seriously disturbing stuff I can tell ya! Anyway, they gave us a tour of all their theatre equipment - from the armoured vehicles to basic prodding kit and techniques. The Barrett is used to destroy/detonate ordnance at a safer distance amongst other things, and we got to play. Some of us more than others mind you! LOL! We had about two hours before the next part of the program and they had some surplus ammo that needed dispensing with - it's always easier to utilise the ammo than return through the system, wheere it will only be destroyed anyway. We just kept picking targets further and further away, until you miss and then you were out. Nothing to win, it was just bragging rights. I didn't do too badly I came 3rd, out of 15 guys and one of those was sniper qual'd but "hadn't had his hand in" for a few years, bloody sandbagger!!
Wonder if our guys will move over to the M107 as well.
